I'm half an hour in. This movie REALLY doesn't work, does it?

So they wanted to make a Knight's Tale/Princess Bride type of film, but they couldn't decide whether they wanted to go "full spoof" or not. Then they seem to think that characters saying the F-word in this setting is funny. It really, really isn't.

I'll check back in when I'm done -- if I get through it all.

Starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, the father of Captain Kirk

reply

No it doesn't really, I liked the movie and I gotta admit it doesn't "work".

reply

Ooooo, I can't wait for you to check back in!!!

reply

Actually, it works surprisingly well.

reply

That depends. Are you trying to get it to work as a comedy film, or as a suppository?

reply

"That depends."

I guess I could say that it only works as Depends.

I bailed on it. It's entirely possible that I would like the last half better than the first half, but the movie in no way earned the benefit of the doubt.

To anyone out there who enjoyed this movie, I don't hold it against you. Comedy is so subjective.

______

Scarlett Johansson is Miss Peel, Clark Gregg is John Steed, but who the heck are the others?!

Hear hear. Let's break with internet tradition and agree to disagree instead of insulting each other's intelligence and taste in films.

reply

Why do I have a feeling this will never catch on. Is it because I was just looking at the boards on the "12 Years a Slave" page?

Janet! Donkeys!

reply

Yeah once about 10 years ago I read a discussion in some forum about "studless winter tires and if they are as good as winter tires with studs", and some guys disagreed and were already threatening to kill each other.

I'm getting older and I still don't understand why people are such babies about everything.

reply

I would rather listen to people debate a film's merits than make painstakingly obvious statements like "people have different tastes, let's just respect that!"

Not that I'm advocating heated arguments, but WE ALL KNOW taste is subjective, which is why we come to these boards to hear and attempt to understand different viewpoints and preferences.

All right then, you tell him why this movie works. I'll probably agree with you, as I thought the film was hilarious.

It's entirely subjective.

It's like if you like raspberries better and I like strawberries better. There's no right or wrong -- just different tastes.
