Walsh the part time cook

The idea that a cop can have a serious hobby side line is not in itself new. I would not have thought a cop can have a second job. Conflict of intrests. I think herein the UK while many policemen go on to retire and run or own drinking establishments while serving they cannot have a direct link interest with a PUB through wife etc.

My problem story wise is that we are fed the idea that policemen have little chance of stable off duty life as continuance on any case can upset every plan. So how can Walsh even begin to have regular opening hours of any kind as he appears to be [as are most TV cops] on regular call. Not even able to feed their own babies at night. A blessing maybe????

Imagine rushing out of your little diner with ten as yet unpaid for meals are being eaten and of course the need to chase after the non tippers.I doubt if the NY population would behave as in those who frequent Leo Knox's bar and pay into his honesty jar. I have just seen the episode where one customer wanted to kill him rather than paying. Well it was a bigger story than that of course.

Why not have him as a part time taxi driver. Mind you that might make for an interesting series about the non involved fare paying passenger being accidentally part of a crime investigation.

That is just a nonsensical addition to show some sort of normality within a character and it does not have any plausibility.

Perhaps the only plot device I do not like.
