I Really Miss Casey Schraeger and the Second Squad...

I watched The Unusuals when it initially debuted on ABC way back in 2009, only recently discovering them again on Crackle. Began watching the episodes again on Crackle and ultimately bought the series through Amazon Instant Video where I'll complete watching the series (it'll be nice in that there are no commercials, and once my modem syncs up it comes in well enough as I elected SD...).

But I've been thinking about Amber Tamblyn as detective Casey Schraeger and I really miss her and her squad mates. I miss that the show, okay it was a cop show, but it was a fun cop show. It wasn't a cop show in the sense of yet another Law and Order (original and SVU), Homicide Life in the Streets, Third Watch or what we'd include Bones, CSI, NCIS and their spinoffs. The Unusuals was a cop show sure, but it dispensed with the gore, the details that the audience doesn't really need to see as well as the preaching about how folks could possibly think like they do and do things to each other (I'm thinking of you Dick Wolf and Law and Order SVU...). Rather with The Unusuals you could run around NYC, catch the bad guy, get invested in a good character story and have a laugh while doing so.

I would've liked to have seen detailing about Casey's love life, her professional life and her personal life. I find it extremely interesting that she grew up as an only child in a wealthy family, with money and luxury she could've had the kind of life that rich kids have (example being Gossip Girl or otherwise spoiled, uncaring and generally clueless if television is to be believed). Instead she eschewed fortune and luxury to rough it, to make a name for herself, to contribute to society and to find something that she enjoys and is good at. I would've really liked to have seen Casey relate to her family as she tried to meld the rich girl and the cop together.

Sadly with the failure of The Unusuals that usually means the kiss of death for anyone else who'll ever consider trying to create a similar show. Yet all to often when a show is more than successful we'll get clones - Law and Order gave us SVU, Criminal Intent, Trial by Jury and Law and Order Los Angeles. CSI gave us - CSI Miami and CSI NYC. Those are just the cop shows I care to mention off the top of my head, but it's coined the term "alphabet show" and it just makes your eyes want to glaze over as they seem to trip over each other with similar storylines...

Not that it would be the same people, but I'd sure love to see Casey Schraeger and the Second Squad again...
