How can either Mehta or Appleman win now?

The producers aired Majumdar's comment that neither of their cook-off dishes would have received high marks in kitchen stadium. So basically we've been told that neither guy is Iron-Chef-worthy. How could they possibly back off from that by allowing either one to win the whole show?
