The thing about Cat Cora & Michael Symon is that they had to learn to play the game. They both had weaker starts and made some questionable food. As they gained experience they learned the game (that homestyle beats fancy, that traditional beats molecular gastronomy, that serving drinks with the food gets you bonus points, etc, etc). Cat had a rough start, but once she dug deep into her southern and greek traditions she became much more successful.
