Watching it now and I keep noticing the ranks keep changing. One minute Matthew Newton's character who starts as a SBLT and when he takes his jacket off he gains 2 ranks and becomes a LCDR. One of the other two starts as a SBLT, takes his jacket off to show CPO SRIs and then tells someone he is getting promoted(in reality he would be getting a rather strange demotion) to PO.
shareWatched this last night too. Must say I didn't notice the ranks other than when they were talking about them. You remind me of my uncle who deconstructed an episode of Patrol Boat whilst on shore leave in the 80s!
I think the mention of Petty Officer was to cheer up pop, played by Bud Tingwell, who'd held that rank during his timme in the RAN.
Not to mention the inconsistencies in the cap badges - two officers' and one OR. I missed a lot of the film because I was kept occupied with the rank badges (eg USN instead of RAN, Lt Cdr and S/Lt) and wondering if they had invented new ranks in the RAN. Also superfluous use of the copulatory adjective... I know sailors swear but it was difficult to pick out the english from each sentence.
