Documentary or Narrative?

I saw the This American Life episode with this couple, and I thought their son was making a doc about them. Is that what this is, or is this a dramatized movie based on their story?

Well, since there is a "writing" credit and it has two actors as the only people listed for cast, I'm gonna guess they are planning on the make believe version at this point.

There was a 2007 documentary, this is a "redo" I guess lol.

This 2015 movie is a fairly close copy of the excellent documentary. There is a sub-plot added about GJ and a romantic partner. Also a little bit where we get to "meet" his father.

I watched the documentary and then watched this film right after it. Much preferred the documentary, but who's to say if I had watched this first I would not prefer it?
