This movie sucked and was not what I expected

Wow, easily the worst movie I've seen in years. A bunch of barely-intelligible-due-to-the-accents rambling culminating in a fistfight. At first I thought it was going to be badass, having read the rottentomatoes synopsis. A soccer playing kid who is a dead ringer for a baby Liam Neeson has his brother gunned down in cold blood, and I knew from the synopsis that baby-Liam would be out for REVENGE.

Except not. Because for some moronic reason, the adult version of baby-Liam is NOT played by Liam Neeson, but instead by some spazzy dork. I was all set for some intense brooding by Liam followed by him stabbing the other dood on the show and then knife-fighting his way out. Instead he is actually the killer and the movie sucks. This could have been a badass Taken style revenge movie but instead it is a circle-jerk of forgiveness due to a bad plot and flipping the two leads from the roles they should have played.

You pretty much summed it all up right there. I have been putting less and less stock in rottentomatoes lately, their ratings are all over the place and often misleading, like right here. I would say the only positive aspect of this movie was the acting performances, but man, what an overall unentertaining movie. Unfortunately, we're not getting those 2 hours back.

"A bunch of barely-intelligible-due-to-the-accents" you say.

That's from someone that uses terms like "spazzy dork" "dood" Not everyone speaks with an American accent. Over here in the British Isles, we have been speaking English for quite a while!

The fact that you wished the movie was a "badass Taken style revenge movie" says it all really.

I would suggest you stick to badass, Jean-Claude Van Damme style movie's in future. Easier for you to digest Dood!

Excellent rebuttal spurslad! I admit I don't always the understand accents of others but an authentic accents adds to rather than distracts from the moment. It seems more real to me.

I use closed captions to watch everything....never have trouble with the accents then. I did miss some of the slang terms...but none that couldn't be understood with context clues. I love movies made in the British Isles...the accents are Hot! And I totally agree that this guy should stick to blockbusters. I was blown away by the performances in this movie, and I think the idea of restorative justice is very important.

I'm about to watch this little film, and I see that there are sub-titles in english, so I'm going to watch it with them on. I know people in the UK speak the "kings english" but when they do, it's like a foreign language to me, and they invented it, go figure. I'm from the western part of the United States, and when we speak, it sounds just like you put the letters in a row, and sound them out, not a bunch of jibberish, no accent, just the words as spelt, is'nt that refreshing!

Well said.
As George Carlin said, think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Someone clearly missed the point, didnt they? I have never read such a ridiculous attack on a film. You have got it so, so wrong. How can anyone have thought this would be anything but a character driven film. The subject matter, the actors, the people who made it (the BBC) should all be sufficient for anyone with half a brain cell to realise this is not going to be your bog standard Hollywood fare.

For the sake of Christ, you wanted a knife fight? Did you really expect that? And as for Liam Neeson playing the wrong character, er no. Again you are so far away from reality. Did you notice the eye colour? The respective ages that the characters would be now? James Nesbitt was awesome in the part.

You need to take greater care when choosing the films you watch. I would advise that you limit yourself to Hollywood blockbusters starring Shia Le Beouf and other talentless morons. Clearly anything with any subtlety is lost on you.

I agree with dominicpearson. Unfortunately, the OP just read the wrong synopsis for the movie, and the movie should not be blamed for that. This movie was more psychological, and it was one that was supposed to make you think, not give you a quick thrill that you would forget about in an hour.

And the accents could have been much worse. I lived in America-in the South for that matter-and I was able to understand them. They had genuine Northern Ireland accents. I watched another IRA movie, "50 Dead Men Walking" recently, and while it was a really good movie, most of the actors were English and had fake Irish accents, and I could barely understand them.

I agree with you that Taken was a good movie, but this movie just did not happen to be Taken. If you want an action movie on the IRA, I would suggest "50 Dead Men Walking."

Also, unfortunately, you all just got taken (no pun intended) by a troll. Was too easy in this case...

The title of this thread screamed that it was written by someone with an IQ of 70.

reply

i'm not going to bother with explaining to the OP the merits of this film.

I just wanted to say i took a chance on this at the videostore, based on LIAM and the DIRECTOR...and wow!

i'm pleasantly surprised, simple premise, good character development, great dialouge, to the point. Good tension :)

This is one of the best films I've seen in a very long time BECAUSE its not a Hollywood blockbuster with overreaching plots, unrealistic stunts and full of CGI. This is based on a true story which gives it more realism and, while the people the movie is based on have never actually met, it is a "what if" scenario. Not everything in life is as neat and tidy as a 90 minute script.

I agree with everybody on this thread except the OP slash troll. This was one of my favourite movies of 2010. I was completely blown away by the performances of these two wonderful, wonderful actors. And as for the lack of violence... well, that is only a good thing in my book!

“Nothing happened?” Obviously you have NO inner life or imagination, since apparently all that happens for you is external ”action.” Very sad. This movie was about Emotions, but I guess that’s beyond you.

Wow, you really didn't get what you went for - Taken?!?!... I can understand your disappointment when you wanted such a movie, but I think you should blame rottentomatoes instead. It's like getting fish when you order a burger - blame the waiter for messing up the order, not the cook. Good luck next time!

BTW I think this movie was great!

You should avoid motion pictures altogether.
