Something fishy going on...

I remember seeing the trailer for this documentary, on youtube, where they said that they had received a video cassette with the word "Enjoy" written on the front. Now, this was supposedly depicting a woman being killed, involving a plastic bag. There were even a few zoomed screenshots, whether they were staged for prosperity's sake or not - I don't know.

Ok, so far so good.

Then the actual documentary is released, and having seen it, since it is an interesting but disturbing topic - I was like "What?!"... they changed they story about the video with the woman and the plastic bag. they now say that they were offered to pick it up at a screening in a hotel room, and NOT what they said in the trailer: that they had received it anonymously...

Unless, there is something I have misunderstood, then this whole documentary falls to the ground.

Thats pretty strange. Do you have the YouTube-link to the trailer? I just saw the documentary.

Ah, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNAXosdhS-E

I just saw the trailer too. I have no idea what they are trying to pull of here...

reply

Huh...
I watched this doc last night, and after just now seeing the trailer, there are some major inconsistencies, which peeve me.

1) According to IMDb, although Mark L. Rosen is an Academy-Award-winning producer, his name is completely unrelated to any Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, which seems to be his big street-cred selling feature in this documentary.

2) The "Enjoy" tape talked about in the trailer is not mentioned ANYWHERE in the documentary. If the producers of the doc got their hands on some nasty footage, they would have at least mentioned it in their doc, even if they DID turn the footage over to the authorities. And I bet they would have TRIED to use SOME of the footage IN their film, even if they couldn't use the really incriminating stuff.

3) In the epilogue, Mark Rosen does recount a pretty grim tale of seeing what he believes was a snuff film, but the trailer makes it sound like the tape he watched was the alleged "Enjoy" tape, which it wasn't.

I don't know - the more research I do, the more I think this film is just a sensationalistic documentary trying to pose as a horror movie.

Rosen never claimed to have produced TCM. He said that he had represented it, which is true because one of the distribution companies for the movie was bryanston films, who Rosen worked for when TCM was made.

reply

Sounds made up.

Plus, that Rosen character allegedly saw this supposed snuff video so many years ago, and all of a sudden he chooses to speak of this event out of the blue, on camera, for a documentary that he's producing, which just coincidentally happens to be about snuff? And, having seen the alleged tape 30 years ago, he's still so shaken & stirred about it, to use Jimbo Bond's parlay, that he starts boo-hoo-hooing on camera? Seemed more like very lame acting to me.

reply

The last scene of Mark doesn't make a lot of sense. So he saw what he believed was a film of a woman being murdered which upsets him still, but DIDN'T call the cops. He just walks out and says "This isn't for us". I call *beep*

reply

My mates swears there was an Alien King in Aliens when he saw it years ago.

This whole thing smells like hogwash

He says that those type of special effects weren't available in the 70's...actually I think they were. I've seen some 70's and older horror/gore films were the effects look really good, at least for that time.

reply

His cred went downhill when i saw he was executive producer. But regardless, he is an excellent story teller. He was the best part of the film.

Christ... you questions the validity of his claim because he didn't call the authorities?! Realize he worked in the porn (distribution) industry. Though he seems to be a level-headed, respectful guy now, you never know how he was then. I mean, though he was disturbed by the footage, his solution may have been to simply distance himself as far away from possible. Plus, it sounded like he knew NOTHING about these people so he may have thought it a total long-shot to go to the authorities (although I imagine they COULD be tracked down through an investigation).

My point is, he's bothered by it now. That doesn't mean he was as emotional about it back then.

I'm not saying his claim is fact. I'm not saying it's bullsh*t either. What I'm saying is, is that I wouldn't invalidate his story because he didn't go to the authorities!

I know for a fact that Ken Bigley was beheaded with what looked like a small kitchen knife.I saw it by accident at work the day it happened.A guy in the office said look at this it's dead funny.Made me feel screwed up for weeks after.Wish I could unwatch it and I'm not squeamish. Some of that footage is on this towards the end,I'm not sure how much as I didn't watch it.Snuff has become so rife in the media that it's now considered passe.
Although technically it isn't 'snuff' per say. It's still making money from filming people really dying and it's unnerving to think that we've become so desensitised to such horrific images on T.V. on virtually a daily basis, especially when you consider the watershed time for simple nudity,it's absolutely ridiculous. You can watch people leap to their deaths from flaming towers, see burned up kids and war attrocities 24/7 but to see a human being in their most natural and passive state you'll have to stay up until the wee hours.
That is so messed up.
This also contained equally disturbing scenes of animal cruelty.
There is nothing benefitial to the soul/spirit in this other than one guys absolutely genuine remorse at taking that step to far.The guy was obviously mentally scarred by what he saw as I was by Ken Bigley's hideous ordeal. But then again the movie wasn't entitled 'Shrek'.I think the people questioning the finer details are just avoiding the stark reality, there's no scam here.It is what it is.
Snuff exists, how can that possibly be debatable ?
Look at the likes of ultra-violent societies such as Medellin,Columbia.
15 Violent deaths per day,in a tiny poverty stricken area and usually mostly young children.Killed like vermin by the millitia, some returned to their mothers in bags (Note the plural - one dead child in more than one bag) Unrecognisable.Torn to pieces.Executed in cold blood for having nothing.
I'm sorry but if you are capable of committing such unspeakable acts on a daily basis without a second thought or any fear of reprimand...
You're capable of holding a mobile phone and pressing a button.
(See Carlito's Medellin,a really moving documentary about life in Medellin,Columbia - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0421951/)
May seem a bit off-topic but when you consider some of the horror that gets overlooked for example the widespread cannibalism in Russia during and post-war, where mothers would lose babies to starvation and swap them to avoid eating their own offspring. Why would people think that snuff movies simply don't get made ? Easy answer...We like to sleep at night.

Be very careful what you wish for ...
