How did the movie start when you saw it?

I guess I should say that, if you haven't seen the film, you might not want to read this. If you haven't seen it, you won't be able to answer my question anyway.

I just saw this movie and I think there might have been something wrong with the print that was screened. The first scene seemed out of place. For people who have seen this movie already, how did the movie start when you saw it?
When I saw it, the film started with Jason in disguise as a random adult knocking on the door of Old Man McGinty's house, pretending to be a neighbor, talking to McGinty's son and basically letting himself in to look around the place. McGinty's son then finds Duncan and Charlie yelling at Old Man McGinty upstairs. They apologize and leave and the film cuts to the Mystery Team sign. This struck me as odd, because it was a very abrupt beginning. Also, Jason mumbles something about murder in that first scene and they don't start investigating a murder until a little later, after they talk to the little girl. Later on, in the version that I saw, when they are investigating the murder, Old Man McGinty is their first suspect and they decide to pay him a visit. The film cut right from them declaring Old Man McGinty as a suspect to them yelling at Old Man McGinty up in his room again. It just seems to me that that first scene was out of place. It would have made more sense right after they declare Old Man McGinty a suspect. So, I ask again, how did the version that you saw start?

That's the way it starts. They show the team being idiots, then back it up a few hours and start the story from the beginning. That's why when they go back, they skip that scene and jump right back to where the opening left off.

The audio commentary addresses this. There was going to be a scene of them being kids solving a mystery, but they went with this instead.

You could tell they hadn't thought out the opening of the movie completely. After the opening with Glover in the disguise and then the introduction of the Mystery Team we get a scene which pans from the mystery team booth up into Donald's room presenting the scene as if it is a child in the bed and then they show his feet completely the bluff. That should have been the opening scene although I also loved how the movie opened. They probably should have just reblocked the shooting of the mystery team booth/Donald being woken up by the bell scene. .
