Brilliant Movie!
I've been posting at IMDB for over ten years and often I get so frustrated and angry at some of the posts. First of all, it a person under 18 isn't allowed to see a movie unless accompanied by an adult or parent, I feel the same rule should apply on this message board. This movie is a work of sheer genius on the part of a director, a great DP, and four VERY talented young actors. Edward Furlong has been making movies longer than most kids who write revies on IMDB. He was a fantastic kid actor and grew up in the film media to become a top-notch adult thespian. I wasn't that familiar with the other three actors, but they ALL did themselves proud. A very difficult film to watch due to its harsh commentary on how this true story was betrayed. The actual event took place in a German prison and the director did everything he could to portray it exactly as it took place. Some of the scenes are brutal and I applaud everyone for keeping in a realist approach. The one thing that kept me in awe was that there was not one word of a written script. The director explained what each scene was to exhibit and then each of the four made up their on dialogue and kept it at a professional level all the way through.
The younger teens who always rush to judgment to write their trivial reviews always want to know such inane things such as, "Did the actors smoke?" or "Do you think 'he's gay'?"
This is one of the most honest, compelling 82 minutes I've spent watching a movie in years. It was flawless. Everything that was needed to tell this story was captured. Ten stars is not enough to rate this piece of absolute brilliance. It's available for rent at both Netflix and Blockbuster online rentals. If you have a strong stomach or if you're a fanatic on realism, do yourself a favor and don't miss renting or viewing this magnificent work.
YES, they ALL smoke, and yes, gay sex is portrayed...so those two question have now been answered. Let the adults have something to see that doesn't require an ignorant teen review!
