Random Use of Motion Capture

For you CG newbs, motion capture or performance capture was what made the animation in Avatar so realistic.
The Henson company decided to use Mocap. It's creepy how realistic the movements are, which is typical of Mocap.
The use of Mocap in an animated kids show reminds me of Jane and the Dragon. But at least in that show they used realistic humans to match realistic movements. These kids models are weird looking with human actions.
The rendering is pretty nice, though. The shading at least. Hair simulation is crap. But then again, they don't have real hair to work with.
Oh, just learned they also use Digital Puppetry. So the voice actors record their lines at the same time that they manipulate a Mocap rig to move their faces. Like real puppets.
Henson says that this saves a lot of time. I always knew Mocap could be used to save hours and hours if it finally got easy to use. Read this guys.

I just saw a segment of this show for the first time today, and I did notice that the movements were strangely lifelike, and I wondered if motion capture was used. It makes the heads look like puppets, and I have to admit that the whole effect was kind of unsettling.

I'm just glad that someone else felt this way as well.

I came across this show while flipping channels and there seemed to be something off with the animation. I'm glad someone else noticed it too.

You should have died! You should've just laid down and died!
