I did repos for 10 years -at first I too was fooled but consider these tips :

Have you ever seen a car on the hook ? Seems every car is driven away after the owner gives up the keys - even when I saw the owner many didn't supply the key and the car had to be towed.

When they back up to tow the car ( before always getting the key ). They many times go to the wrong end of the car- you always tow front wheel drive cars from the front getting the drive wheels off the ground.

They never call the police - if they have a valid repo order and a upset scumbag deadbeat the cops will always come by and tell them to shut up get out of the way.

Recently they had a late model Toyota that their guy jumped in locked himself in the car and picked the ignition and drove it away ... So they didn't have to tow it .... That Toyota not only is near impossible to "pick" but it also has a transponder ignition system and without a coded key the car could never start.

When backing up to the vehicle - even if they are at the wrong end - they pull out the chains and crawl under the car .............. forever ......... never connecting the chain to the "wrecker" making me believe they have no clue on how to actually use an old strap system

Modern stealth repo guys would never use a strap and chain system - there are slick systems that can be installed in a pickup truck similar to what they use that are a wheel lift design that could have the car " on the hook " in less than 60 seconds and driving down the road to the storage lot eliminating all the - look at the clipboard and give me the keys deal. These new systems allow the driver to pick up the car without ever getting out of the truck.
