I am from Argentina and I was very pleased with this movie. It touches on some deep issues and touchy subjects, which are way more scandalous than any lesbian scene or bare chested girls making out, such as pedophilia, police corruption and corruption and rape of minors, etc. It also touches on class issues (the wealthy girl's father getting her way the the maid - a touchy subject that was a certain issue in our past Argentinian history - specially when those young girls had no place to go and no one to complain to, etc.

It was masterfully done in the cinematographic aspect, I was very pleased that a movie from my country had such maturity and level of craft. And actresses were amazingly great as well. I feel it is definitely worth watching.

Ending can be confusing but remember they are traveling between Argentina and Paraguay, with the idea that you will not be extradited to the other country (meaning, the police will not spend money and resources looking for you someplace else) I don't know how true this is but this is a clue to understand the ending of the movie if you haven't understood it, it means that if they cross the border (and they seemingly do) they could try to live a "happy life" without being prosecuted for the killing left behind. After all the death of the father was not intentional, she meant to commit suicide and he drunk it instead. And the death of the corrupt policeman is justified as a poetic license for all the abuse and sexual explotation he subjected minor girls to... etc.

BTW, I saw this movie in SWEDEN, where they showed it on TV. Interesting choice!

story looks interesting.however why lala is silent although she knows what's going on between maid and her father.and the role of mother is almost absent among all these intrigues.but it's worth watching because maid's past and life do all work in this movie.

I really didn't like this movie at all.

It was far too confusing, unrealistic, and melodramatic. There were loads of different ideas, themes and events mixed together, but they were not really connected. The movie sounds interesting, and the cinematography is pretty, but it makes very little sense and isn't very touching at all. It's just all over the place.

However, I liked the director's "XXY" and I look forward seeing "Wakolda"

I'm surprised that so many people didn't understand this movie. It made sense to me and seemed to make sense to me. What part confused you?

it had an interesting premise, but it was too confusing
