Absolutely atrocious.

My expectations weren't particularly high for this in the first place, and my main reason for watching was purely to catch a rare glimpse of Winona on the silver screen (so infrequent these days). Unfortunately this had to be the worst of her string of B-movies made last decade (e.g. Darwin Awards, Sex and Death 101 - the latter I actually did enjoy). The acting (Winona does do her best with the appalling script) was lacklustre or charicaturesque; the soundtrack was trying so desperately hard to be 'cool' and nostalgic, never-mind overbearing in most scenes; the editing was incredibly distracting, jump cutting to the point of becoming lost; and finally, the most glaring and destructive element, was the script. Never have I seen a movie fall victim to so many painful cliches (which weren't even executed well or intended to be reminiscent on 80s movies). Such lazy writing, creating dull, all too familiar characters, none of whom had any real depth or point. And as for the haphazard, unsure storyline: the outcome is a confused and messy film, the only notable quality being how memorable it is due to it being shockingly poor.

I'm relieved to see Winona's managed to regain some momentum and promise with her career recently though (Black Swan, The Dilemma, the upcoming The Stare and The Iceman). Hopefully she continues to shine, regaining her deserved 'great actress' status, and is able to put this dark period in her career behind her. She is so much better than this trash.
