What is with Colin Farrells accent??
I'm sorry but what the hell is up with Colin Farrell's accent in this movie - he sounds like every bad Hollywood cliche...You're from Dublin dude!!!

shareHis character is not from Dublin..he's using a local accent. Northern I think.
shareIt's meant to be a rural west cork accent
shareCork is in the south of Ireland, the biggest county in the republic. His accent in the movie is a west Cork accent.
shareIts west Cork. He nails it spot on.
shareActually, his character is from West Cork and its in the Southern part of Ireland. He actually did have a dialect coach and I think his accent was perfect!

It ruined the film b/c we couldn't understand more than half the film. Ppl r going to want their $$ back in America or not bother to see it...watch

People in America should bother to learn other languages once in a while...
sharePeople in America do learn other languages -- like Spanish and French. Why would I bother learning some random Irish dialect.
sharean obligatory semester in school doesnt mean people in US care about learning another language
they dont even like reading subtitles
oh, and it's US, not America as a whole, you numbnuts
I'm from the US were are not ALL ignorant about learning languages...I studied French and Spanish in High School and college, I'm fluent in Russian (studying it by immersion) and have learned German (now that I live here). There are other Americans who've studied languages also...it is easier to learn and practice languages when you can easily travel to places where they are spoken...
Anyway, I loved this movie and even though it was hard to hear the dialog at sometimes, I thought his accent was excellent...I loved his character
Why is anyone talking about "learning a language" to understand this movie? It's not a language, it's an accent. I'm American, and I understood it perfectly well. I could tell that it wasn't Farrell's usual accent, and I assumed it was some regional accent for the film, which apparently it was. Does not take a genius to understand that. God.
shareI had no problem with his West Cork accent, I understood it perfectly. My mother had the same accent. I was just there and it sounded pretty good for a Dubliner.

I live in America and I'm planning on learning Gaelic (Irish Gaelic) either this October or next! First I need to find funding for the $100 fee. : /
shareHe wasn't speaking another language. An accent isn't another language.
shareActually people in America would do well to learn the English language too!
shareslack jaw, jack off americans think only THEY have the right to rule the world. too bad they have THE WORST EDUCATION, WORST CRIME AND HEALTH PROBLEMS IN THE WORLD (besides 3rd world countries, of course).
shareIt ruined the film b/c we couldn't understand more than half the film.
Calm down, man.

I'm American, and Texan to boot, and not only did I understand his accent perfectly well, but I quite enjoyed his character's subtle, self deprecating humor throughout the movie. This is one of my favorite movies, and I rewatch it quite regularly. @therealguy13: Making broad generalizations about any country's occupants and culture makes you sound ignorant and ridiculous. Unless you've met most Americans, (and good luck with that) you can not honestly make judgements, not even if you reach your conclusions with a "majority" of American culture exported to the rest of the world. Yes, there are many ignorant, rude, and uncouth Americans, but the same can be said in any country. Saying that Americans as a whole want to rule the world, have the worst education, etc. merely proves that you don't know what you are talking about. The US is a large country, and is quite diverse. Yes, there are places in the US, and definitely in Texas where problems like that exist, but they are not nearly as prevalent as they are in (as you so ineloquently put it) third world countries. Since I've visited several third world countries during my five year military service, I have experienced a small percentage of those countries' problems. I would not say that I am an expert, or even a reliable resource, certainly not as reliable as someone from that principality, so I would suggest you keep your broad, sweeping generalizations to yourself, and travel more instead of relying on the biased international news programs to base your opinions of the US on. Just sayin'.
shareThen request subtitles at your local theater and stop being an intolerant and arrogant prick because every movie in the world doesn't pronounce espresso as such: expresso.
shareI could understand very well and english is not my mother language. In my opinion, american english is not pleasant to listen to and it´s getting boring after a while. So don´t think so high and mighty of yourself...
shareWe Americans need to just learn. It's not all about us. - Sorry, get over it.

wesht cork accent boy!
filmed in my hometown in summer 08, what a summer!
How was his corkonian? I havent seen the movie, he can handle an some american accents reasonably well, but if he fcckd up this accent then I wont be happy boy!
shareJust watched a clip on The Late Late Show, and from the few words he spoke, it sounded authentic to me. I guess he had a "local" dialect coach.
shareI did see the movie today with OnDemand and yes, he does handle american accents quite well, in my opinion. He did NOT feck up his accent in this movie and I am sure you will be a happy boy! :)
shareI was there that summer when they were filming, but left to go back to London a day or two before Colin Farrell quietly walked into the bar where I'd been drinking. The crew were sound people though. The weather wasn't so bad that summer, eh? Always noticeable down in W.Cork when it's sunny!
shareHope his Wesht Cork accent is better than the Dublin one he's been puttin' on for years.

Not a bad ould west cork accent in fairness like, he lays it on fairly thick by the sound of it.
shareIt's a thick Corkonian, but it's accurate alright.
shareHis accent and speach pattern were West Cork - He's made so much US rubbish lately it is easy to forget he's a great actor - the scenes with Stephen Rea are pure magic
shareNothing wrong with his accent, it's west Cork as everyone is saying. My girlfriends brother in law is from that area and she said his accent is just like Farrell's one in this, so much so that she laughed and said the voice reminded her of him. The movie is very good, great story with a couple of great twists. Nothing wrong with this movie, the script is good and keeps you listening and going throughout the whole file. Scenery is superb too.
Really liked it, hope Farrell gets back to his best after this. He was good in Crazy heart too.
Hmm… Death by mini bar, how glamorous.
His accent is actually quite good, he doesn't falter with it much at all.
I was actually quite suprised that he was able to do an accent.
Maybe is isn't that bad of an actor after all...
You’re so cool. You’re so cool. You’re so cool.
