Why was the Mayor wearing a Germany tracksuit top after playing Squash ?

Just finished the film there. I'd give it a solid 1.1 out of 5 but the bit i don't get is for someone who LOVES new york SO MUCH through out, he is seen wearing a Germany Tracksuit top after playing Squash. Shouldn't he have been wearing something New York related instead of a Germany top ?

I seen the three stripes and knew it was Adidas, i then saw the Deutsch written on the back.

I'm a big supporter of Germany hence why i spotted one of their tops a mile away

I would understand Switzerland, because that's where the surname Hostetler originates from, but Germany? Might be just a goof from filmmakers; they've thought that Hostetler (original spelling Hochstetler) is a German name.
