Did anyone notice that Rose's bicycle scene... (minor spoilers)

Didn't make a whole lot of sense? I mean, she didn't bicycle into the museum after setting off a series of firecrackers to distract the guards in order to do a robbery. She just went there to see the guy who was painting the phony Rembrandt for her. So why do it?

Don't get me wrong...it's a funny scene and Emily Blunt looks great in it and the Regina Spektor's song as background is great (I think it was Spektor). But I thought we were going to see her steal something from the museum and blithely ride out again. I think that might have been a better use of the scene. The only point to it as it was to show Rose was someone who took risks just for the sake of risks (which I suppose was the point of the scene...but I still think it would have been better as part of a caper).

2 reasons

1. she is going into the national archives to set up a million dollar (well $900 thousand) theft the least amount of witnesses the better.

2. what you said "to show Rose was someone who took risks just for the sake of risks "

Agree with the OP. If she wants to sneak in, why not simply walk in? She's obviously a grade A bitch, but she's not an idiot... That scene however made her look like a complete idiot.

that was the point.... you expect one thing...then youre presented with another. if she stole something that would of been the obvious outcome..its what most people expected. so in my mind it was a much better outcome since it was a surprise and contrary to expectations.

and of course it was also to establish that she didnt have a care in the world, she didnt fear being caught. it probably didnt even cross her mind. anyone else would of sneaked in but that wasnt in the nature of her character. she demonstrated her fearlessness over and over during the first half hour or so. stealing things in plain view, walking into shops to get changed, randomly robbing the petrol station while on the run. etc

Excellent response Dib1!

That established her character from the very first scene! She just didn't give a *Bleep*. Thus the title WILD TARGET!

Very enjoyable feature film!

"Of course, in reality, there would have been many other employees on the way inside that would have stopped her, but that's movies for you."

Not to mention security cameras absolutely everywhere. It was more to set a mood I think than be realistic.

for me it established the total unlikability of her characters. She took risks not just with her own life and safety (that would be acceptable) but carelessly risked the life and safety of others -- she gets at least two innocent people killed just because she doesn't want to do things the safe way (let alone be honest.)

She was actively rebelling, there was a 'no bicycles allowed' sign post near the museum / path way... very in tune with her character.
