To be honest, I haven't actually seen the movie. I watched a review of it on TV and apparently Emily Blunt plays his love interest, so based on that I just thought it was an odd mix. However don't get me wrong, I know a lot of girls date older men but personally I think it's a bit far fetched when the guy is nearly old enough to be her grandfather. Well anyway, I mean no disrespect to Bill Nighy himself, and I know it isn't much of an issue since it's not even real, I just was curious what other people thought on the subject :P
shareI'd like to point out that Victor is slightly younger than Bill Nighy. If Emily's character is the same age as she is, they may have done that to take him out of that "Nearly old enough to be her grandfather" category, but he's certainly old enough to be her father.
Victor's mother commented that he was almost 55 and his father was 55 when Victor was born, so obviously his father was much older than his mom.
By the end of the movie Victor and Emily and married with a kid who has already killed the cat. I couldn't help but wonder if it was meant to be a generational thing.
Lets not forget Mr. Playboy himself Hugh Hefner is currently engaged to someone 60 years his junior.

You're right, he's not quite that old, I miscalculated there somewhat. I guess I found the pairing a bit odd because they act more like father and daughter in this movie, with Emily's character being very immature. I've become less judgemental and more open minded since I started this silly thread.
