I don't get it. How exactly did he become Kingpin?

I know instead of assassinating don, he screwed over Luciani. But how exactly did he become leader of muslim gang, didn't they already had a leader? How did he took over? Did I miss something?

I have the same exact question.

Why screw Luciani over and eschew the opportunity to make more money?
What advantage if any did he gain by reneging on his promise to kill Marcagi?
And you are the folks following him at the end of the movie????

I know he had a little side thing going on with Latrache and the Gypsy and the Egyptian, but that does not warrant the title king pin.

Did the corsican commit fratricide during their internecine struggle?

reply

He got to be a kingpin by accumulating favors from everyone and being the one guy who was surfing the middle without taking sides.

He got the Corsicans by not killing Marcagi and eliminating Cesar. He also got Latrache and the Egyptian. He brokered a peace with the Muslims. He was everywhere and nobody was gaining anything by eliminating him.

The guys following him at the end could be either Corsicans or Muslims imo. They don't make it specific because he has everyone behind him.

The business Cesar asked him to "manage" for him earlier, was his by the end of the movie. Most likely from Marcagi needing someone on the inside of everything, who could deal with the Italians and the muslims.

The film doesn't state explicitly that he became the group's leader. It does suggest he became a very influential player in the group, which he used as backing for his own plans.🐭
