Arab? Help

What kind of arab was Malik? Lebanese? Not sure if they mentioned it in the movie but I'm just curious.

reply

I think Maghrebi so his antecedents were from Morocco or Algeria. He was French in the film though and not an immigrant.

I know that Maghrebs speak Arabic with different dialect and probably have different words too. It's certainly not classic Arabic.

ive learnt classic arabic, and i cudnt make out most the arabic they spoke in this movie

reply

the arabic that is spoken in the film is darija, and the consonants are pronounced more together and nearly without vowels-
for example : classic mashreq arabic- word - iftar >>> ftr in darija
another example: his name el djebena- almost heard as ljbna with only the 'a' articulated at the end of the word.

Not moroccan. It's either algerian or egyptian and I would say most likely algerian.

you're egyptian, so i guess you speak good arabic, rite? how much of the arabic did u understand in the movie? most of it? 50%? i only understood bits of it. it was like as if they had mixed in french or another lang with their arabic

lol I'm arabic (Syrian) and to be honest I only understood like 35% of what they said in arabic, the morrocan, algerian and tunisian accents are the hardest for me to understand between arabs.

reply

He puts the map of Algeria on the wall, the language he and his friend speak is Algerian Arabic, so I would say he is Algerian.

reply

He is yes, Algerian definitly.

reply

100% Algerian. Trust me. I'm Moroccan myself but I have many Algerian friends, not to mention that my family back home live right at the Moroccan-Algerian border so they share the same dialect more of less (berkani accent, which is very similar to Algerian Arabic).

reply

his accent was algerian i know it because he talks like a relative of mine who lives in france.

I LOVE CROWS ZERO.

reply

he speaks algerian dialect, I'm from morocco and I can clearly make the difference, Reyeb (the guy he killed) spoke tunisian.
it's kinda hard to understand if you're only familiar with classic arabic

reply

Sounds like Algerian to me. I've studied fus7a (modern standard Arabic) I could barely understand a word of what they were talking about
