Adelaide Film Festival

Any Aussies see this at the Adelaide Film Festival last weekend?

Well, actually, I'd be glad to hear from anyone who saw it at the festival, not just from the Aussies.

There's a lot of positive feedback and a collection of fan photos on the Last Ride Facebook page; the film's director also checks in regularly. I'm ordinarily not a great fan of Facebook, but it's been fun tracking Last Ride's progess there. Its official website is also recently expanded. The Age and the Port Augusta online paper The Transcontinental (links below) also published pieces of the film this past week. Everything I've read so far has been overwhelmingly positive. That said, I'm on the wrong side of the planet to have attended the Adelaide Film Festival, and would love to hear comments from anyone at the three Last Ride screenings who hasn't spoken up yet. There's a User Comments section here crying out for reviews. ;)

Caught Last Ride on the final weekend of the festival. It was one of the Australian films I was really looking forward to seeing at AFF along with My year without sex. Whilst My year without sex really impressed, Last Ride was a little of a let down. The acting was good the story was good. However the first half of this film moved along at a pedestrian pace allowing the performance and story to creep up on you, which is a good thing. However at the same time it allowed the stunning Australian Landscape to impose itself onto the film and become a dominant character. At times The landscape seem to invade upon the story without actually enhancing its development, the build towards the climax and resolution was some of the best Australian cinema for a long time. It's a good film, I'd love to see a harsher edit to tighten and enhance the pace of the first half. Still worth a look.
