Umm... sounds a lot like...

The Road. I've read the book and await the film. This film's synopsis sounds eerily similar, despite its lack of an apocalypse. Anyone familiar with both, who can confirm an validity to my claims... either way.

Thanks

Yeah, they are very similar to each other.

Good thing they are not coming out close to the same time.

Oh, by the way, which one's Pink?

reply

They have very little in common. There's no apocalyptic setting in Last Ride, the tone is very different, the focus more intimate, and it's much less of an allegory that The Road. I thought Last Ride sounded a bit too much like Road to Perdition as well... it isn't. Looking only at trailers and one-sentence synopses creates a misperception based on cursory knowledge of the material. In style and storytelling, all three films are very different. (I found Road to Perdition a disappointment, though I enjoyed the graphic novel it was based on).

Even assessing the directors' styles (I've seen several of John Hillcoat's films), I can't imagine there will be too much similarity. Apart from the fact that both are probably going to be unsettling and well-made films involving journeys and meditations on the father-son relationship.

"despite its lack of an apocalypse"
...so there's a slight difference, then ? barely noticeable, but still ?

reply

There's a slight similarity, more like. Barely noticable to people who don't make broad generalizations based on having only seen trailers.

reply

...Well, yes, that was the point I was trying to make ?

And actually the trailers aren't alike at all, what with The Road playing up the apocalyptic footage.

reply

The Father-Son relationship is similar to Pursuit of Happiness, in relation to their set backs but thats about it i think.

reply

The only similarity this film has with The Road To Perdition, The Road or The Pursuit of Happyness(???) is the father and son travelling together.

reply

Sigh.

More attempts to rubbish a film people haven't seen. Damn you IMDB!!

reply

Screenwriters do say there are only 22 plotlines in the world. But characters vary, so I'll wait to see "Last Ride" and take my chances.

To me, it sounds a whole lot more like A Perfect World with Kevin Costner

reply

I feel the same way! And I think "A Perfect World" is much more superior in performance, storyline and cinematography. Since "A Perfect World" was done a long time ago, younger audience don't know about it and the producer tried to do a remake with much lower budget. I can't help but feel that the actors and actresses in "Last Ride" probably wore their own real-life clothes in this film, thereby saving a lot of money in the wardrobe department, LOL.

reply

ehhh, similar yeah. I love Last Ride. Something about the father and son relationship drags on my heart. Such an underrated film.
