Ben Caspian was horrible in it... period.

1. THOUSANDS of young girls would strongly disagree with your view of ugly.

Also want to see a Dorian who can't act?

Watch this.

aahaha
u got a point on that one, dear!

Ben Barnes is an absolutely sexy young man, and his acting is good enough!!!

Though I know this film ADDs a lot of stuff to the story, the story is the same, the book is there with the same characters, but with some spice to make the movie moving and interesting to non readers.

To me the best movie about The Picture of Dorian Gray definitely.

Do you recognize my voice...?

It's definitely true to the heart of what Wilde intended. It's not a word for word translation but it's the sort of story that needs certain alterations when adapted for film. For starters a great deal of it is Dorian's inner struggle which is hard to convey without inner monologuing. And the redeemer character (Emily) helps achieve this. Almost all Picture of Dorian Gray films have this redeemer character in some form or another.

lol my wife said exactly the same thing, tho of course I had to remind her that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I was very dissapointed with this interpretation of a classic novel. If you enjoyed this, try the book, it is genuinelly ten times better

It's better than quite a few of the film adaptations out there. There are some really awful ones.

reply

Dorian is supposed to be the apex of beauty ...not someone that 5 out of 10 people might say is cute.

reply

There is no apex of beauty, particularly when it comes to male beauty from a female POV. Some would say Johnny Depp is the apex of male beauty, others would say his features are too fine and he's not "manly" enough. Some would say a young Tom Selleck is the apex of male beauty where others would say his features are too course and he's TOO masculine looking. Even Chris Hemsworth, a very good looking man, isn't attractive to every woman because some women don't like blonds and they don't like their men all bulked up.

Women tend to define male beauty by who they find "sexy" and that's a quality that can't be measured as it, more than beauty, truly is in the eye of the beholder. For example, if someone were to ask me who I find the most attractive I would say Jeff Goldblum circa 1993 but I get the feeling that most would not agree.

"Nothing is more ill bred than trying to steal the affections of someone else's dog."

Actually, I really liked this film interpretation. I HAVE read the book, multiple times, and truthfully it has some really slow parts that add nothing to plot (ie the descriptions of Dorian's collections. Actually, not only are those parts slow, they're plagiarized. seriously. Wilde copied them word for word from some of his books)

I think most departures from the book actually enhance the story: the sensual, hedonistic montages that give you a better idea of Dorian's descent into darkness than Wilde's Victorian innundoes; what Kelso did to Dorian that made Dorian fear and hate him;

even the addtion of Emily Wooton because it's through her that Lord Henry gets a little bit of punishment for what he did to Dorian. (It always bugged the heck out of me that all Basil did was paint a picture and he gets murdered, while Lord Henry, who did the corrupting, got off scot-free.)

Wouldn't say excellent... But no slouch nonetheless.

Ha ha that's Peter Firth playing "Dorian" Colin Firth's older brother...

reply

Peter Firth and Colin Firth are not related.

reply

wow, this clip is so bad, I couldn't even watch the whole thing. I felt like I was watching a play at a high school or something. Not only that, the actor playing Dorian isn't my idea of good looking.

You think Peter Firth can't act? Laughable...

If you think ben barnes is ugly i must conclude you are mad.

Dont find him attractive thats cool but anyone can see why a lot of women/men do.

its like me saying megan fox is ugly...blantently wrong

~Kyle Gallner~

reply

actually Megan Fox was really hot before but now she's really NOT. WTF is up with her lips? It ruins the whole face. Angelina-wannabe much?

reply

[deleted]

Agreed. Either mad or blind as a bat.

reply

Your kidding right. Im a female and you cant compare the beauty of Megan Fox to Ben Barns being a hottie. No way. He is a pretty boy kind of guy. Like he just has this pretty look like he is gay to me. Seriously he doesnt have this good looking Your Hot Like a Real Mans Man look at all. I am sorry I like men to look like men not like a pretty boy. UGH!!

reply

He's not ugly (I've met him before and I don't think he is) but I do think he's wooden as there's something very Keanu about his acting. He has a limited and bland screen presence.

"Losing your hair? Tiny cock? Buy a Porsche!" MTW

reply

I think part of the 'wooden' aspect is to show how cold and soulless Dorian became. He simply wasn't capable of emotion anymore.

The wild, cruel animal is not behind the bars of a cage. He is in front of it.

reply

I think that opinion is subjective...period.

Agreed. This film has some flaws but he isn't one.

reply

To be honest, although he is very good looking, I don't think he is really beautiful enough to be Dorian. It should have been made ten years ago with Christian Bale as Dorian. To me he's (Bale) up there with (young) John Derek and Tyrone Power as men who were so gorgeous they could only be called beautiful.

I haven't seen the movie, read the book though years ago.
I thought Dorian Grey was blond blu-eyed. I would expect someone like Jude Law to play him.

This Ben guy though is rarely handsome. Reaminds me of early Keanu /my opinion/
Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but to say he is UGLY???

reply

You need to look in th mirror at yourself..This was a sexy handsome man who I think pulled it off..Jealousy get you no where, except on the internet leaving false hatefull comments.Post a pic of yourself and lets see who looks better.

He's yummy. I want to run my tongue all over his body, every centimeter.
