The Music Is Awful.

I normally LOVE Akira Yamaoka's music. He really is amazing at capturing moments and setting moods with music, but this score is letting me down so much so far.

Let it be noted that I haven't beaten the game yet, but I'm about half way through. I have beaten Silent Hill 1-4, and the soundtracks have completely blown me away - start to finish. This one, however, left me saying "What the hell, Akira?!" from beginning to end. Seriously... even from the start menu, I felt a sinking feeling about the music.

I know music isn't everything, but... holy crap. Was he having a midlife crisis? Did someone else compose and slap his name on the credits? Because this is not the music I'm used to hearing from such a musical god.

"Haha... Optimus Prime."

I personally loved it, especially the begining where you're walking in the rain. The music was perfect, very atmospheric.

God help Silent Hill 6 with the absense of Yamaoka.

I didn't think McGlynn's songs were quite as good this time as they have been, and there isn't as MUCH of the great music, but I like some of it a lot. Listen to that song when you're saving Alessa from the fire. I love that mix of industrial and melodic piano (top floor of the house - it also appears at other times during the game). Perhaps part of the problem is the lack of good boss themes. The Butcher's theme was the only one of those I really liked. Another problem is that the music isn't always utilized well during gameplay. I think The Room's music is weaker overall, but it has a few tunes that are so outstanding that it makes some of the weaknesses easier to overlook which perhaps can't be said for Origins.

Stand by for Ludicrous Speed......
