The biggest flaw in this.

THERE WAS NO GODDAMN PLOT!!

reply

Not sure what you mean.

He gets killed, gets turned into a robot, finds his killers, takes down the corrupt corporation that is working with the bad guys.

It's the almost the same plot as the original.

reply

Yes. And it is enjoyable. I would say the biggest flaw is the acting.

The kid didn't act properly at all. Nor I think did Murphy himself

Clark: Jonathan Kent; isn't it a little past your bedtime?

reply

The OP is right though, in that this remake's plot doesn't make much sense, it's all style over substance. Also, it wastes precious time by dwelling on thematics that were handled in a more subtle yet more poignant manner in the original and then fails at developing them properly, thereby draining them of their symbolic charge. In the end, the film has to resort to contrived romantic notions, that both feel completely out of place and contradict established plot points, to reach a (disappointing) climax.

reply

It was also boring.

reply

Agreed. Love the original though.

reply

Why do people always feel the need to like the original better? In this case the remake is far better than the original. Minus Lewis's race and gender change. That role made me a Nancy Allen fan.

reply

Well, from my perspective, the original did things that no other action movie at the time had thought of and provided a brilliant satire of American living at the time. It was serious but it still understood what it was and found a perfect meeting place for both.

This one is too serious without realizing what it could be or is. Murphy coping with what he now is was a good addition because it allows us and then to really think about the ethics and horror of the whole situation but it eventually gets sidetracked for a cookie cutter action story with little investment in its characters.

always the dumbest "criticism" possible.

for instance:

"a man walks into a bar.
He orders a drink.
The alien says, 'purple is not blue'
so the man shoots his dog."

that is totally incoherant, BUT it's a *beep* PLOT.

Learn your goddamn *beep*
