A female Robocop would've been a more radical idea

The female partner of Murphy in the original RC was a kick-ass woman. All the writer of the remake had to do was re-write her part and made her the new Robocop. That would have brought an original twist and made this movie more original and cool, don't you think?

They doing that with the ghosbusters reboot and that is looking way cool!

reply

No, it's looking stupid.

I had heard that idea was pitched around at some point way back when to Nancy Allen and she said it was dumb and wouldn't have any part of it

reply

Dude, it's a REMAKE< sorta hard to be radical with material that's already been views a billion times & loved & in this case sort of radically anti-privatization to start with.

"Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop."

Only Peter weller could pull off robocop

I read a really stupid online article in the Guardian about the possibility of having a female James Bond.

One problem with a female Robocop is that people are uncomfortable with brutal violence against women. The bionic woman was ok because the violence she suffered was an ACCIDENT but if it was intentional like a bunch of thugs machine gunning her people would have a problem with it.

In the absolutely TERRIBLE 4th Karate Kid movie the villain was never able to land a hand on Hillary Swank because a guy beating up a girl would make viewers too uncomfortable.

James Bond is often tortured and no way would people be comfortable with a woman being tortured like that.

reply

WHAT?, a female James Bond would make NO sense whatsoever lol

reply

I agree with that, but I also think it would be funny to have the Money Penny character comming to Bond's rescue at some point in one of the new movies. You know in an out of left field manner, maybe even cracking a joke to the effect of "I have other talents besides sitting behind a desk typing, James."

Isn't that the main reason why the original I Spit on your Grave film was so maligned by the critics in the first place? Or also how the Lars von Trier film Antichrist got accused of being misogynistic due to a couple of very explicit scenes involving Charlotte Gainsbourg, such as the one in which she takes a pair of scissors and proceeds to cutting off her clitoris?

reply

No.

I... don't see the difference.
I mean... when it comes to robocop it is always about his humanity, not his gender, he is like 90% machine, would it matter if he was sculpted as a woman? I am not against it I just fail to see how it would add anything to the franchise.
Female terminator in Sarah Connor chronicles was fun because it was really great idea. Think about it who you are more likely to lead into your secret camp: a behemot of a man or a fragile teenage girl?
She was really great adition to the series, while Arnie was your typical frontline battle robot covered in skin she was build from the start as infiltration unit.
It gave way to new possible interaction, drama, comedy.
What does female robocop do? What does she add?
Little to nothing, it would be very superfictial change.
