I don't think it was gratuitous. The first scene seemed to highlight her loneliness and the second, the unsatisfactory nature of their intimacy.

We did if you buy into the mantra, 'if you got em, flaunt em' because they are monumentally mamnificent. However, I don't think it was all that gratuitous, it demonstrated a careless rush to experience something which should be much more personal, and with someone you know well. She could have left her bra on, she didn't HAVE to be naked, but her upper nudity was neither necessary nor unnecessary, in my opinion. either way would have been fine.
