Cliche next to cliche next to cliche.. So vain, pretentious, boring and simply bad. The worst thing is that it is offensive to "real" experimental film, because it's pathetic, shallow work like this that gives experimental film-making a bad name. Any 15-year old with a digicam WOULD have made something more interesting with the same budget. My favorite moment at the screening was when the words "My last day... " came on screen and there was applause from the audience at the prospect of finally being released.
It's extremely pretentious and self-indulgent. Sure it's a nice idea to let the movie's surrounding be read like a book by being on-existent, but with a really shallow story, and not one memorable performance as well as a bunch of really annoying characters, this was one of two of the absolute worst movies I saw at the Berlin Filmfestival... and I saw 43 this year.
Come on! This film isn't half as bad you folks claim. As for "the worst thing I've ever seen" try most American DVD only releases or the Sci Fi channel's original films. But sure, Rage will be near to impossible to watch if the above is your benchmark.
Most of the acting was good and that Dwight character actually cracked me up almost every time he presented his new ideas for "M is for..." Jude Law was almost completely unrecognisable as Minx, the drag. I only figured out it was him by the method of exclusion. My major problem with the cast was Eddie Izzard who I thought was miscast. I love this guy and know him only as a comedian, so I couldn't really take his would-be Rupert Murdoch character seriously.
There is a reason I don't watch about 50 Youtube video's consecutivly, Rage is the reason.
I wont say it's the worse thing I've ever seen, but it's repetative, A LOT of the jokes aren't funny and the stuff that is supoosed to have meaning doesn't. I will admit the opening is funny visually but after the "M is for Mother****** joke it looses all its steam and originality.
The end is okay but there is still about an hour in between which prompted 4 of the audience to fall asleep.
Also I read that Sally Potter was against add libbing and kept people firmly to the script, which might have improved it considering they had good comic talents with them.
In my mind,, give it some re-writes, make it a short film, and it would have been much better.
"There is a reason I don't watch about 50 Youtube video's consecutivly, Rage is the reason."
100% agreed.... sooooo boring.
I'm shaking my head about Jude Law's manager too... i would have burned this script and ate the ashes before handing it to him, especially after him doing the sh it splatter that was "my blueberry nights" and "sleuth".
Two words from me to his agent... "damage control".
Sally Potter: what can one say when they hear the name Sally Potter? I keep trying to like or even tolerate her films, but I have to give up. Just not for me. Better luck to the rest of you. I am finished.
This thing was ready-made for either two things: a fast forward button or suicide. Ugh. Awful, awful film. I typically enjoy and am even ridiculed for my enjoyment of "slow" or "art" films. I couldn't handle this at all.
If you can make it through the whole thing without hitting the FF button or killing yourself, you are more than a champion in my book.
