A sequel to a flop?

The first one had a budget of $60 million, and grossed $40 million worldwide, that spells 'flop' to me. So who in their right mind greenlighted a straight-to-dvd sequel?

That seems like someone is keen to throw away money. And who would wanna finance a Wesley Snipes movie anyway?

I used to be a huge fan of Snipes. Blade 2 still ranks as one of the greatest superhero movies, (in my humble opinion), its just a pity he couldnt choose his roles wisely ever since then.

I loathed the first film with a passion. In addition to how boring it was, I called the "twist" immediately when a name actor was faking his death over a walkie talkie. And the Hong Kong style shootout at the end? Putrid.

The first one was weak but somewhat watchable but didn't hold up on repeat viewings. Forget this one altogether. It sucked. Not much better than his last 8 direct to vid movies. Fights are a little better though.

Where do you think it all went wrong for him?

Surely he was getting regular A-list scripts, because if I remember correctly, after Blade Trinity flopped he went straight into the DVD trash market starting with 7 Seconds.

Was it all some ploy (to make crappy movies and make people think you earning peanuts), but instead worsened his "tax-evasion" problems?

I know I'm grasping at straws, but please for the love of all that is holy, can someone shed some light, at least even a personal theory as to what happened to this film career.

Some of his good roles that I still hold dear: New Jack City, Money Train, White Men Can't Jump, Rising Sun and Blade 2.

Snipes screwed me again. I was hoping he'd at least return to some of his original quality when I saw the trailer and some decent fight scenes. So I took a chance. BAD MOVE!! This is as bad and convoluted as all his other "black ops" style dvd movies. The story was embarrassingly bad. Even the fight scenes didn't help. Some of the fights were basically the same moves re-edited at slightly different angles or lengths.

As for the original. I wouldn't say it was a flop. But it wasn't my idea of a great movie either. I wasn't that thrilled with it but it was definitely better than this.

You people have got to learn that the days of movies like new jack city and blade are over. Times have changed, people have changed, and things are gettiing more and more expensive. This movie was pretty good in my opinion and apart from the so called blade films wesley snipes does realy good movies. actualy in my opinion his straight to dvd films are somewhat better to most of his earlier ones, snipes is like seagal and dolph were they have changed there style of film making to blend in with todays times. you people realy have to get over new jack city and blade cause those days are never coming back. Snipes movies today to remeber are likes of 7 seconds, the marksman, unstopple, the contracter and even the art of war 2. Think about the times we are living in people and then you will begin to like these great direct to dvd movies.

That was hilarious, Films1999. Thanks for the laugh. You must work for the direct2ddvd industry because no one would ever defend this or a lame movie like The Contractor over Drop Zone, Demolition Man Murder 1900 or even the original Art of War. Nothing Snipes, Seagal, Van Damme, or Lundgren have done in their recent incarnations have even come close to the quality of their Hollywood days. Well maybe VD has had a few decent ones lately bus even his best D2Ds have fallen short of the quality of Time Cop or Universal Soldier.

The majority of these "black ops" fantasy movies these guys do now are so formulaic it stupid. The plots are convoluted and they end up leaving major plots holes and credibility gaps. And they take the storyline too seriously especially when it's a bad story and that makes it worse.

To the poster who said the first one costed
60 million and only grossed 40 million worldwide,
where exactly did you get those numbers?

For my part,i liked the first one except for
the blood splatters the director felt he
had to use in the most violent killings.

The title is a selling strategy.Even if
your numbers are right, the first movie
might still have turned out making a profit
with selling tv rights and dvd sells.

People who liked the first one will be fooled
in thinking this one's as good but about
everything about it is of a quality way
below the first one.

Just watched this for the second time yesterday. It went down a little easier this time. Still a bad movie but I like it alot more than that putrid Game of Death. Amazingly the fight scenes were better in AOW2 than GoD, a movie that actually had two other good action stars in Gary Daniels and Zoe Bell. Go figure. Plus the acting in GoD was downright embarrassing. Daniels might as well have been twirling his mustache like a vaudeville villain.

The Blockbuster store near me is closing as they all are and had a massive clearance sale. 99cents-$3.99 for most movies. So I got AoW2 for 99 cents. Maybe that's why I appreciated it better this time but I didn't forget that just like last time, the end twist was way obvious.
