Neil Armstrong

Wonder what made Neil come out of his shell and talk to the program? Do not know if I'm happy to finally hear from him, or disappointed he broke his silence?

reply

I was surprised to see him as well. I was wondering why he chose to speak out for this particular program and not some other good space documentaries instead, especially one of my faves, In The Shadow of the Moon. Either way, it was nice to hear things in his words.

reply

Unfortunately, Armstrong--unlike all the other astronauts and NASA principles--sounds very scripted with his comments.

reply

Yes i noticed that too, sounds like he memorized what he was going to say.

NASA = Colossal Waste of Billions

Oh yeah... that whopping 0.6% of the 2008 US Budget... HUGE waste...

I suppose you think the almost 600 billion spent in Iraq and Afghanistan is "good fiscal planning"...

From "Federal Spending and the National Debt" (http://www.federalbudget.com/):
In Fiscal Year 2006, the U. S. Government spent $406 Billion of your money on interest payments* to the holders of the National Debt. Compare that to NASA at $15 Billion, Education at $61 Billion, and Department of Transportation at $56 Billion.

NASA = wasted taxpayer dollars

Do you even KNOW how much NASA costs the average US taxpayer...?

From Wikipedia - Nasa Budget - Current (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NASA_Budget#Current):

According to figures and data from the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the White House, U.S. Census Bureau, the Coalition for Space Exploration, and other space advocacy groups such as the National Space Society and U.S. Space Foundation, when divided by the number of American citizens who pay their taxes on April 15, the amount of NASA's budget works out to approximately $57.10 USD per year per taxpayer -- $1.09 a week, or $0.15 cents a day in current 2007 spending.

Try learning a bit about what you post before you make yourself look even more foolish.

By making the claim that NASA was "a waste of taxpayer's money" you are by default claiming that you know how much taxpayer's money is supposedly being wasted.

And if you don't know how much NASA costs the taxpayers, then you have absolutely no valid reason to say its a waste of taxpayer's money, do you?

Unless of course you're just trying to be a s**t disturber by posting unfounded, inaccurate and false statements.

It helps to actually know what you're saying before you say it.

Stop being a jack**s and try applying a little logic to your posts before shooting your mouth (or fingers, as the case may be) off.

Maybe you should actually take the time to learn how to hold a proper debate or how to actually argue a point effectively before you make yourself look even more like an ignorant, uneducated s**t disturber...

oops... too late...

Or perhaps you're just starting on another of your inane tears about absolutely pointless things, just like you did with your "Band of Cowards" thread in the Band of Brothers forum...?

Yes, zero...I'm still waiting...

And how's that working out for you...? I have other things to do with my time, unlike you apparently...

You're right in the sense that I am not a mind reader. I made the assumption that you would have some evidence to back up your as yet unfounded opinion, and its obvious that you don't. You only seem interested in quibbling over semantics.

If you have some facts to back up your opinion, provide them, otherwise, go troll somewhere else.

Keep running little zero....

Wow... obsess much, stars (since we now seem to be on a partial name basis)???

I go away for a few days and come back to find all this. Too bad I'll never know what it is I'm supposedly running away from, since you can't seem to avoid having your posts deleted by the Admins.

The only running I see is you running around the point that you still have provided no proof to back up your unfounded speculations that NASA was or is a waste of money.

Then again, I've found many times in the past that the ones who have the least amount of proof - and most frequently no proof - are generally the ones who can't stand having their opinions questioned the most and then proceed to make the most noise about it...

I hope you're enjoying playing with yourself in here, stars...

I notice your latest diatribe or whatever has once again been deleted by the Admin. Best be careful, lest they decide to just delete you all together.

As for "fessing up", perhaps you missed it a while back when I posted that I wasn't a mind reader as you so astutely noticed...?

Perhaps its time that you admitted that your observations about wasting taxpayer dollars were nothing more than biased personal opinion with absolutely nothing to back them up. Either that or post your evidence. Burden of proof lies with you on this one, I'm afraid...

For someone so intent upon seeing me back up my assertions, I find it amazingly hypocritical of you not to provide any form of proof or evidence to support your own opinions.

So... with that said... you can wait as long as you like, you can childishly claim that I am "falling on my face" as much as you like, you can have as many of your messages deleted by the Admin as much as you like, but until you start actually backing up your claims, there's no point in continuing to provide you with an outlet for your trollish tendencies.

I thought the same thing. But it's still good to see him.

Honestly, he just seems *very* shy.

reply

I'd like to think he saw In the Shadow of the Moon and said to himself, "Boy, I really missed-out!" Perhaps he saw it and realized the importance of getting a record of his personal experiences before he dies. Either way, I was glad to see him participate.

reply

When you think about it, it must be hard to carry on your shoulders the fact that out of all of the entire human race starting from day one YOU were the first one to step foot on another object.

reply

I love that line in "Apollo 13" when Tom-Hanks-as-Lovell says in amazement, "Christopher Columbus, Charles Lindbergh, and Neil Armstrong... ha, Neil Armstrong!" Really lets you know that the astronauts probably thought "Here's a regular guy, just as big a dope as I am, who lives just down the street from me, puts those cheesy Christmas decorations up every year, steals my parking space at work and owes me lunch since I paid the check last time... and now he's the most important pioneer in the whole freakin' history of mankind."

reply

I really loved to see Neil to speak finally. Also loved to see all the missing guys from In The Shadow Of The Moon, namely: Frank Borman, Bill Anders, Fred Haise, Jim McDivitt, Al Worden and many others. Sadly this programme missed some who were in ITSOM, especially the great Mike Collins, Harrison Schmitt and Dave Scott. Plus Dick Gordon, Tom Stafford and Ken Mattingly never appeared in any of these programmes. Would be nice to see a 6 hour docu about all Moon missions with all the guys together sometimes sharing the screen with each other.
