This film is just okay: 6/10 (get off your high horse fanboys)

I wrote the following as part of a response on another thread. I thought it deserved its own post:

The film bored me to death and not because I didn't "get it" or that I'd rather watch a Michael Bay film. I found the film one dimensional in its character development, one dimensional in it's tone, and one dimensional in its self congratulation.

And for what it's worth I can love a film with long shots and minimal dialogue like L'Eclisse, Playtime, or even Gerry.

I didn't care at all about the characters in this film. I didn't care about the progression of the story.

This was the first film I have seen from this director and I was really looking forward to it. A friend recommended it to me. She knows how much I love filmmakers like Antonioni, Rohmer, Tati, Haneke etc and thought I would like this.

There was some good stuff about this film no doubt. I thought the editing had moments of brilliance and the cinematography was great. I certainly don't think it's a bad film. I give it 6 out of 10.

Stop being such a bunch of pompous twats when someone doesn't agree with your taste. Thinking directors like Bela Tarr and Ceylan are overrated does not make someone a simpleton.

Three Monkeys is a brilliant film, easily one of the year's best. It is haunting, dramatic, tense, ethereal, beautiful and essential. Nuri Bilge Ceylan is without a doubt one of the world's best directors currently working.

No it's not. It's basically an "exercise" more than a movie, and it's not a particularly well done exercise.

And no, I don't only like Michael Bay movies. (in fact, I can't remember the last Michael Bay movie I did like)

I've like many "slow-moving" art-house movie. Just not this one.

No, not Uzak! The plot and characters of Uc Maymun were so hollow and the movie was trying so hard to be arthouse that I guessed it must be by the same director as Uzak. In fact, after watching it, I came on imdb just to see if I was right.

At least the premise of Uc Maymun is interesting. Uzak is just about a loser without a job or really anything going on. By all means, I would encourage viewers who liked Uc Maymun to see Caylan's other films, but anyone who found this one dull should keep clear of his other work.
