Memorable scenes(spoilers)
Having only seen 'Uzak' from this director I was pleased with another beautiful and powerful film.
'Uzak' had a very desaturated palette which made it seem bleak and heightened the isolation, and I don't know if it tied in with the idea of envy but'Üç maymun'had a bias towards green in a lot of scenes. Did anyone else think so?
Also in one scene Eyüp is looking out to sea, and he seems to be portrayed in real time as well as the swaying vegetation around him; but a moody looking sky is brewing a storm above just tangibly quicker than you'd expect, making for a dramatic effect. I think this must have been a clever manipulation.
The scene where we see the almost alien like silhouette of the younger brother appear for the first time was very disturbing though moving, and I noticed a bead of sweat on Ismail's head retreating as if time was rewinding. It's details like this that really reward the viewer to soak up the film unfolding, and to stop expecting a pacy but vaccuous hollywood thriller.
Anyway it's my first proper post and I just wanted to recommend this film if you are a fan of this type of cinema and hopefully even if you are not.
