I loved this movie. Recently, a friend was telling me how he went to Istanbul and was duped into paying for drinks for a table full of locals who threatened him with violence. I could have sworn i heard the exact story before, but can't remember if it happened to the son in this film ( I remember him coming home badly beaten in the movie) or if i heard about this common con on radio..thanks

He probably got into some trouble with his dodgy friends. Nothing is said in the film about it; if there is a director's commentary he may reference it. No big deal, I think.
shareI suspect that's it. It just illustrates that his mother actually had good reason to be concerned about the stupid things he was doing with those mysterious friends.

I suppose on a clear day you can see the class struggle from here.
But amazingly doesn't appear that concerned, which I suppose gets back to the movie title again. Like the dead brother aspect, a lot of the interesting stuff Ceylan never goes into, whilst preferring to give us a 3 minute shot of Ismail walking to the railway station.
