The OP wasnt talking about the entire film, its clear that her mother didnt like her friend because she was gay. The OP was talking about that particular scene when the mother opens the door smiling as if she were expecting someone.
To answer like an adult, I actually thought for a moment that the mother was having an affair. Why would the father ring the doorbell? I guess it would make sense she was expecting the father BEFORE Laura was the door. share
