Richard Attenborough

Being the original Pinkie, it's a pity he isn't (at least as far as I know) in the remake, if only in some very minor cameo role.

agreed, love the original film and even though many say Attenborough was miscast and looked too young, I think he pulled it off ... great performance. Would be nice to see if in a small role, dont believe anyone else from the original cast is still alive.

Apparently, the director asked him if he wanted a cameo. He said that he had absolutely no interest in being involved in Brighton Rock again because his last experience was terrible... especially the incident involving his two grand children and that scientist.

why would anyone say he looked too young? He was playing a teenager.

That would be incredibly stupid if they did that! That sort of thing is always silly and gimmicky! Those sort of pointless, in-joke appearances add nothing to the film, just take you out of the film itself and end up being a distraction!

How did Attenborough look too young? Pinkie is supposed to be 17 in the novel. Richard had the perfect look for a baby-faced monster and, at the same time, his natural command of the scene made him a much better choice than a boy the right age would've been. He was just perfect. His finest performance I think (and he did a lot of great work).

By the time the movie was made he was not in the best of health.

Its that man again!!
