Helen Mirren and John Hurt were awesome!

And so was Andy Serkis.

But Mirren and Hurt were the life-blood of this film. Both of them had fantastically witty lines and their final scene was simply hilarious.

I presume this is written by Helen, John or Rowan himself?
Cos seriously nobody else who has seen the movie could write this.

I thought they were wasted. Particularly John Hurt.

Mirren and Hurt were the worst things in the film. Mirren's acting was so over the top it was like an episode of eastenders.

Not sure what went wrong there as they are both normally very good.

I liked Mirren but Hurt was just going through the motions as there wasn't much for him to do.

I thought Mirren looked too refined for the part. In the 1947 version, Hermione Baddeley's vulgar screen person fit the role exquisitelty. Hurt was definitely wasted. Personally, I think he might have played Dallow, who, as played by the late, great William Hartnell in the original movie, is a very fierce and entertaining character. In this version he's a non-presence and, despite his size, I didn't find Nonso Anozie remotely threatening. I know Hurt might have been too old to play Dallow, but good old Willy never looked young. I can see him pulling it off.
