Are we to assume, that the "disgruntled big guy with the cut mouth" chops off our hero's arm, after he finds out, that their master has been killed? Or did I miss something?

I just finished watching this about 5mins ago and am on the net trying to find out the exact same thing! Kind of ended abrubtly. I was expecting to see Fujiki's arm cut off in the last episode somewhere but it didn't happen, so I am too wondering how he lost it.
I might have to check out the manga to see how it turns out.
Sadly manga doesn't have a US distributor at the moment, it is still in serialization in Red Champion magazine if you read Japanese. Haven't had much luck finding good scanlations either (the manga equivalent of fansubs). But it's my understanding that it eventually happens because of the back story.
I interpreted the ending where Irako is talking to the lord to be that he instigated the tournament. But in short the anime is only the first 7 chapters of the manga. I would have liked it to end with the arm being cut off cause then at least the back story part would have been finished.
ok, the first episode was the ending. This was when the guys faced off for the competition (one blind and one cripple). The rest of the story was what happened before that match.. unfortunately there wasn't conclusion to the story. Kinda sucked.
