Bert Trautmann footage was interesting

Saw this on DVD the other night. Wasn't a complete waste of time as I did get some sleep towards the end. I don't understand why this film has had so much attention. There have been far better documentaries on TV with rediscovered footage of British life, e.g. the recent Lost World of Mitchell and Kenyon. For a tribute to the people and psyche of Liverpool, Alexei Sayle did a better job a few years back (http://www.liverpool.com/capital-of-culture/alexi-sayle-s-liverpool.html)
For a poem or eulogy, as one poster commented, Davies's voice is not at all appealing.
Some of the footage was rather tedious, run-of-the-mill stuff, could come from any British city. The football sequence was interesting, but it was a bit odd to see it focus on Man City and their legendary keeper Bert Trautmann. I suppose the other team in the striped shirts was Liverpool but who cares, Davies probably doesn't. You can see some clips at

There's a lot to fascinate anyone about Liverpool and I can understand the romance it holds - I say this as a Mancunian. But this film just bored me to tears and made me despise the place for a couple of days.

The lack of Liverpool/Everton football footage was puzzling and just indicates Davies is not a football fan.

Its that man again!!
