unapologetic slasher fluff!!! criminally underrated!!

what a lovable pack of girls!!! First time I saw it.. Leah Pipes really turned me off as Jessica but I have grown to absolutely adore her performance. She is so great as the queen beotch!! "Well maybe I'm *beep*-in' the wrong guy!!" so many other great one liners. Briana Evigan makes for a kick ass heroine...sympathetic and bad ass all in one. Rumer Willis might annoy some but she still brings her all to the role. Everyone is pitch perfect. Of course... Audrina was a little wooden with her dialogue but her minute of screen time was still a little better acted than I thought it would be.

the direction and cinematography was slick, the dialogue pops right off the screen, the party scenes were very creatively staged especially the opening sequence where the camera goes around the whole house... soundtrack was killer.. deaths very creative and it was genuinely scary and never really let up once the first death happens at the party near the end. the opening itself with the 'prank' is pretty gripping. after that things get pretty routine but this is a slasher film, remember!!??! as far as I'm concerned...it hits all the right notes. funny, sexy, gruesome, intense... they could have amped up the mystery/twist factor a bit more but it was still decent enough in that regard.

the wine bottle death... so disturbing... ingrained in my head forever!!! ugh

I agree. It's one of the few decent modern slasher movies, even if it is technically a remake. My only criticism is that it felt more black comedy/horror than scary, which isn't necessarily a bad thing (I though the script was sharp and full of punchy, witty dialogue) but it was marketed as a straight up slasher.

The main group of girls were a refreshing change from the usual slasher character types. All of the actresses performed their roles very well, Leah Pipes in particular.

While I wouldn't rate it any higher than a 6/10, Sorority Row was a lot of fun and, yes, one of the better remakes. The wine bottle death, pimped tire iron and somewhat redeemable (but still memorably bitchy) supporting girl make this standout.

Just saw this, and I have to agree with OP, even though I see S.R. as a black comedy more than a horror movie. The female cast was certainly the most memorable bunch I've seen of late. The bitchiness of some of them (especially Jessica) is so off the charts it's impossible to take it seriously from the very moment they decide to "solve the situation" in the beginning. Thus I see this more as a spiritual kinsman to Heathers and Mean Girls rather than the likes of Scream, Friday 13th etc. The horror-elements, while frequent and decently executed, didn't really do it for me. It's all about the girls.
