Ellie sucks, Jessica should've....

...been the one that fired the shotgun at the end. It would've been a better message than "slutty bitches & c--ts die coz they're slutty bitches & c--ts" which is basically how it ended. Sometimes I feel like horror movies reward women for not being assertive & mary-suish.

TOTALLY AGREE!!

the only person worthy of firing the shotgun was jessica - i feel like the filmmakers thought everyone would cheer at her death but the actress delivered the character so well that by that stage she was everyone favourite in a cast of bland "Final girl' architypes

itsadammat, did you see the director's and writer's commentaries?! Because you pretty much nailed it!

If you get a chance, guys, check out their DVD "featurettes" on horror movie "rules" and tropes - they're a lot of fun! I don't remember them in detail, but they do talk Final Girl(s), and, IIRC, say something about preview audiences loving Leah Pipes/Jessica (as did I!) and that if they could go back and change some things . . . Hey, maybe she has an identical twin!

*Mostly* agree - so tired of the "all sluts/non-virgins die" horror movie trope, and Jessica was *great* and deserved to be an exception. (But really, would a stab wound to the back of her throat have killed her instantly like that? Unless it went through her spinal cord, maybe? Sequel would/would've been fun, with her in it - and with no visible scars!) But Maggie was a bitchy slut, too. Guess she got a (temporary, it seems) pass per being Megan's sister/not yet a member of the sorority.

I liked that when it came down to it, Ellie grew a
pair.

(Mrs. Crenshaw didn't deserve her fate, either!)

YESSSSSSS she was so annoying!
Jessica was at least a funny character even though she was a bitch!

Jessica already had good kickass moments though, like when she kicked her boyfriend over after coming back for Cassidy. Ellie was the one who NEEDED a redeeming moment by that point.

[YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED]

Marion in "Psycho" isn't the Final Girl. She doesn't even make it to the mid-point of the movie.

reply

True true, although her transition from crying/screaming girl to badass was too quick

Jessica needed to die. She just couldn't shut up.
