New side of Esther

Esther was being so rude to Camilla right after she got back from her date with Rob. There was no need for that. Camilla is a sweet, classy person.

reply

she did that b/c camilla is black.black or no black,i think camilla is very passionate, sweet, classy, fun and warm-hearted and i aint gonna deny.

*I AM A FEMALE,NOT A MALE SO GET A RIGHT!*

reply

God, she was and she was looking so pathetic nit-picking over what Camilla bought Robb. Any other open-minded mother would be happy about their sons finding love and reveling in it, but not Esther because Camilla isn't Jewish.

I hope Rob can look past his mother's negative influences and picks Camilla. It's obivous, from editing, that he has the deepest connection with her.

reply

Very little is obvious from the editing when it comes to reality shows. We see what the producers and editors what us to see.

It is very rare for something that seems obvious all the way though a show to actually end up that way.

The show has showed us no Rob/Lauren dates for a reason.

You're right tmilder, editing has most to do with the perception we are left with. However, I think the editors have been fair to Esther, esp. when she originally brought up her objections agains Camilla and they provided the music and the images to highlight her holocaust ancestry.
They could have easily just made her out to be a bigot, but they made her sympathetic instead.

However, right now what we're seeing is Esther really objecting to the union, period.
I actually cant believe how many people are shocked by it. I've had Puerto Rican, Chinese and Indian friends whose families would feel JUST the same way if their daughter brought home a Black man (regardless that the families themselves are brown). People I know, who welcome me in their home, would disown their child if they brought home a mate of my culture. It's real life, so I don't look @ these people like they're an anomaly. They're just holding onto a specific dream for their child until its forced on them to either accept it or dont see the grandkids.

I can understand if Esther really hopes for Rob to marry a Jewish girl. However, she did not have the same objections to Amanda, and Amanda is not Jewish. I'd have to agree that it appears she objects so much to Rob seeing Camilla b/c Camilla is black.

reply

I agree the editing is key on shows like this. How much time did they spend filming only to condense it all down to 6 hours of TV time? Obviously the show was originally going to be many more episodes but got cut down to fit into the holiday break until all of the established shows return because the network didnt have much confidence in it.

If your gonna hire Machete to kill the bad guys just make sure the bad guy ISN'T YOU!

reply

Quite a lot of footage. What is the timespan of the show? Like 4-6 weeks? Something like that.

And they are editing it down to MUCH LESS than 6 hours -

each "1 hour" show is really only about 40-45 minutes (the rest commercials), and that includes tons of filler and recaps, etc.

The funny thing is that Lauren isn't even a practicing Jew. She's half Jewish and doesn't practice the faith. Esther's excuse of "Oh, she's more familiar with our customs" excuse is bull. Look at the smile on Esther's face when Rob chose to take white, non-Jewish Amanda to the Virgin Islands. And then look at the fear and panic on Esther's face when Rob chose to take black Camilla to the Virgin Islands. Big Esther is a straight up racist. At least Mrs. B can admit it.

reply

I wasn't too suprised to see Esther act that way. I remember someone saying( on this board) that she is just as racist as Jojo's mom but she can hide it better; turns out that it was true

reply

I think Esther is being very unfair and unkind to Camilla too! She does seem racist. She's acting no different than Mrs B did.

And how ridiculous for Esther to attack the "flower" shirt... just to be mean to Camilla! Esther just "uses" the holocaust story for her own benefit.

But to be fair...I suppose ALL moms... black and white...Jewish or Christian ... whatever... pretty much would like their son to marry someone just like THEM...just like mom. I'm not sure it's a race thing...as much as a mom thing.

Look how Michael's mom was so tickled someone thought Erica was her daughter. Esther's fave could technically be her daughter too. And Mrs. B... well...she's something else. It's too funny she wants to compete against Mindy...lol You'd think she'd be thrilled with sweet kindergarten teacher Mindy! Wasn't that what she was asking for? Maybe she does't like Mindy because she's from the south and Mrs B is a northerner. lol Who knows with her!

reply

Why do people always jump to racism? Racism is cried out far too often. People can not like a person of color and not be racist.

And that is not even the situation here! It's not that Esther doesn't like Camilla (although it certainly is starting to appear that way), it's that she doesn't like her FOR ROB as a potential long-term spouse.

Esther thinks that anything between Rob and Camilla would be temporary, because she is not Jewish. This show is called MOMMA'S BOYS" - it is all about the opinions of the mothers on who they would like to end of with longterm.

Esther wants a nice Jewish girl to carry on the culture and tradition - pretty understandable for any Jewish mother, but even more so being descended from so many Holocaust survivors.

What about the non-jewish white girls that she also supported? That could have nothing to do with race, or maybe it does.

3 possibilities there:
1. she thinks that the white girls, for whatever reason will be more likely to convert to judaism
2. she just likes those 2 girls better than Camilla, based on their personalities , etc and NOT BASED ON RACE. She has been LIVING WITH THEM FOR WEEKS, remember.
3. yes, she is racist.

All we know of Camilla is what we have been shown. There is SO MUCH that we don't see and will never see.

Esther was completely rude to Camilla after the date. Inexcusably so! But she was just being a mother, seeing her son slipping away from who she had chosen.

reply

'Esther thinks that anything between Rob and Camilla would be temporary, because she is not Jewish. '

Yeah, that might fly if not for that fact that she was perfectly fine with the non-Jewish WHITE girl.

OBAMA WON!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

that's what I was saying. She had no problem about Amanda not being Jewish, which leads the viewers to see that it is because Camilla is black that she doesn't want her with rob. I think out of all the boys, Rob has the strongest back bone and I hope he follows his heart and not his mom's opinions of Camilla. I also don't like how Esther keeps stressing the Jewish struggle, has she never learned about slavery. If that is one thing Jewish and blacks have in common is struggle at the hands of prejudice and ignorant people. So if she wants that to be her only excuse then Rob and Camilla have more in common than Rob and the other two girls.

Beg to differ about why Esther wants a Jewish daughter-in-law. The children, (grandchildren) are only considered Jewish if their MOTHER is Jewish. I suspect Esther was afraid that her son would be infatuated and do something foolish, then later realize he made a mistake.

Camilla might not realize how uncomfortable the entire Jewish family stuff might have been for her either.

I suspect Rob went home and asked Camilla out.

I have to say I love that he went home early, alone. I found that hilarious. I kind of wish I could have seen his mother and Lauren's reaction to that.

Honestly, it was clear he wanted Camila. It's just sad he wasn't willing to fight for it. Yeah, interracial relationships are hard, a lot harder than 'normal' relationships, but it doesn't mean that it isn't worth the fight in some cases. If he felt that strongly about her, if she was someone he went to sleep thinking about and woke up thinking about like he said, he should have been willing to fight.

OBAMA WON!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

She became Mrs.B, but at least Mrs.B was open about it from the beginning. It was clearly not the Jewish thing because she was fine with the other non-Jewish girl's whose only difference was that she was white.

I get what you're saying, and that occurred to me too. After thinking about it, though, I don't think that Robbie's mother was OK about Nikki not being Jewish. After all, she only suggested Nikki when Robbie kept insisting he didn't like Lauren, so I think that she suggested Nikki as a way to make Rob like someone other than Camilla; after breaking Camilla's hold over Robbie, she could then persuade him to choose Lauren.

That's what I think, anyway. I suppose also the previous poster may be right in that it would be even harder for an African-American woman than a "white" woman to convert, as the African-American woman would have to deal with racism against her for being "black", as well as anit-semitism/ractism against her for being Jewish - so she'd be taking on double the prejudice.

So, it's possible the second one has some validity, but I think that the second one is probably to main reason.
