I get why people didn't like this but it worked for me.

... and it is not just all the pretty faces, though those didn't hurt. (Was it wrong that I thought the father was way better looking than the son?)

Anyway, the acting wasn't bad at all (even the kids were okay) and I really liked the central father-son conflict. I didn't see it so much as a teen romance as a coming-of-age story, where the son really, instead of metaphorically, distinguished himself from his father.

I thought the not-so-good writing showed integrity. The ending was true to the story arc. There was some sweet directing in a few scenes and some decent cinematography as well.

Yeah the pace dragged and the special effects weren't too special, but I thought it was worth my time.
