Are we to assume that....SPOILERS

since Dan does not stay with Amy at the end and walks away into the desert, that he has "tasted human blood" since the curse was supposed to end with the death of his father?

I didn't get that either. They had it all set up like Dan and Amy were going to be together now that the dad was dead, then he leaves! I get that they wanted to go for a tragic romance kind of thing, but that ending was confusing.

Doesn't make sense.

According the the director's commentary (my dvd is titled Wolf Moon), co-writer/director Dana Mennie, said he wanted the viewer to be kept guessing. This commentary starts when John is driving Dan into the desert. He said,"...and this scene is... when I wrote this I thought that cliche would have been the kid saying good-bye to the girl and I didn't want that. So, I wanted to leave the viewer sorta guessing about what the curse means exactly and if you think back to what the gypsy woman, Sonny, said... she said,"Except to become that which you already are." And the ultimate test of love to this kid... he's been put to the ultimate test of love so he goes and becomes what he is, but he stopped the curse. He just didn't know what it meant: whether he would be human or not. And I thought it was more emotional for John, the father, who had seen this kid as so wrong-- for two men to say good-bye to each other. (as John and Dan stand outside John's car) Little bit of Brokeback Mountain going...I'm just kidding (laughs). But anyways, I believe it worked. I hope it worked. You guys let me know if it worked... I wanted the story... the ending to be bittersweet you're not quite... I want the movie to be where people ask questions about it: 'Hey, What's going on? What do you think?' leaves it open for the next one. There he is out there doing the ultimate sacrifice. (sings)I did it for love. And he can't be in between worlds anymore he has to choose a side. Has to choose one of them. So, he chooses that. There he is going up into the mountain.... (wolf howls as Amy places flowers on the road) And there he is telling her he is still looking out for her."

I don't think Dan tasted human blood. I'm still not quite sure if the curse being broken means that if Dan has kids the kids won't be werewolves or that he'll never be tempted to kill a human or something else. Dan still changes into the wolf so that isn't going to change even though the curse is broken. It doesn't quite make sense to me. What exactly happens when the curse is broken? Dan has not killed a human so why couldn't he be with Amy and just go into the mountains during a full moon?
