5.7 really?

thought this was one of the funniest movies i have ever seen. If you can't handle seeing some tits and sex than don't go to a movie named "A Good Old Fashioned Orgy" Almost missed out on this because of the 5.7 I am soo glad I ignored the low rating. I think the 18 to 35 age group will appreciate it while anyone older will see it as filth and anyone younger will probably be watching it with a parent and it will probably be an awkward traumatizing experience lol. Hell I am 23 and still I think I would feel awkward if I watched this with any of my parents or god forbid took a first date to see it.

Agree. This movie definitely is undeserving of a 5.7, its actually better than most of the recent comedies. I didn't walk away thinking it was the most hysterical piece of film I have ever seen, but it definitely has its laughs, is refreshingly different, and breaks the mold (albeit only slightly) of what is usually out there. Give it a shot!

I agree, it just wasn't that funny.

being slightly older than 35 i m feeling insulted. but insulted by your idea some magical trick would turn you into a bigot by a certain age. i bet there are even a lot of people in their seventies that might enjoy a film like this and might even be way more relaxed about the whole sex thingy. that u dont enjoy in front of relatives is a different story.

I rated it a 5. I agree with some of the others that it wasn't the content...it was just that it wasn't very funny. I loved the cast...they were all great...but the script was lacking in the funny department. I also felt that the relationship with Jason S and Leslie B was set up to be more than it became...it just fell flat to me.

Great cast, weak film. :(

I think the rating is a good rating actually. I saw some horrible movies this past year, and as far as comedies go this was at a minimum as good as quite a few I saw in the theatres. And I personally feel was better than quite a few of them.

The problem for me was that it just wasn't very consistent. They wanted to somehow balance between a ridiculous comedy, and making it 'deeper' and it just didn't work at some points. But there were definitely a few laugh out loud moments in the movie for me. I think between a 5 and a 6 is an accurate rating personally.

reply

Agreed. It just wasn't that funny. Not a great movie at all. The only thing I thought was funny was the first party, - the white trash bash and them stealing all the realtor signs. Other than that, very few laughs.

reply

if stealing the realtor signs was the funniest thing for you in this movie, then I completely understand why you didn't like it.

reply

I liked the white trash bash party too...

Being that you used the term "thingy" i doubt you are truly 35 but be that as it may, i dont think that his reference to age was ment to say that those over the age of35 are bigots, hell he probably ment closer to 60 now anyways, but it is obvious that those that grew up in a more conservative era would not appreciate the humor as much as those of us that have grown up with it, im 23 and i dont believe the oldercrowd would appreciate it for just that, not cause you are aa stuck up old fart, which you appear to be

reply

I think some younger people have odd ideas about we "older" people (I'm 47). I grew up in the seventies, not really "a more conservative era," even if the first chunk was under Nixon/Ford. It was the sexual revolution! Free Love! Studio 54! Streakers! "Jiggle TV!" Conservatism wouldn't take root again in the culture until the Reagan/Bush era.

I thought the cast of this movie was good, but the material was thin. There wasn't anything in the movie that was out of bounds (then again, I'm a fan of "Shortbus". I love Jason Sudeikis. Will Forte was wasted in his part. I like the fat guy, but he always plays the same guy in everything. He's a Hollywood cliche. But I didn't expect much from this film, so the lack of hilarity wasn't a problem. It was OK. As far as outrageously titled movies go, it was way better than "Hot Tub Time Machine," but not as good as "Wet Hot American Summer."

Oh, and I do use the word "thingy."

i do Agreed with, this was one of the best comedy movies i saw last year, and it didn't even premier in my home country.

there s too much sex as it is, aseriously i can guess the plot by the title:

some old dude reminiscents of his so called sex life, he thinks of making a movie, he falls in love, in the end it s like porn on radio, all talk about it , nothing happens, even worse, it gets beeing romantic.

*beep* you hollywood. if i want to watch porn, i ll watch porn and there s LOTS Of it, some boobs won t make me watch a movie or listen to a song.

and the cast sucks, seams that main actor is in all movies recently, he HAS no facial expressions, just like the kid that played in the facebook movie (social network, whatever).

what happend to real actors? kristen stewart, dude from facebook, fat dude from moneyball, they CANNOT ACT , but are cast in all movies, while deniro, brad pitt, etc play in so bad movies they cant do sht about it.

the world turned to sht, or maybe i just grew up and turned up a cinical *beep* but no, for real, the only funny show is south park.

I really hope English isn't your first language. If it is.. good God, Lemon!

Well, Robert De Niro is 68 years old. I think it would be pretty awkward to have him star in this film.

Besides, I could imagine Brad Pitt has better things to do. He's in 3 movies coming out in 2012, and was in 3 as well released in 2011.

And real stars cannot be hired on a limited budget. You know they have to be paid, right?

Also, your resume of this movie based on the title is incorrect:
"he thinks of making a movie" - incorrect
"in the end it s like porn on radio, all talk about it , nothing happens" - incorrect
"even worse, it gets beeing romantic" - the orgy itself? not entirely.

This movie isn't made for you to jerk off. If that's the mindset you start watching a movie with, you're going to be disappointed by most movies.

I gave GOFO an 8... for several reasons:

- I had some genuine LOL moments in this movie
- The cast, rather good acting... and hey, the ladies were looking gooood!
- [SPOILER] - The reason you mentioned: they actually did the orgy!
- [SPOILER] - That the orgy didn't interfere with his possible-future-relationship with the pale white blonde girl... as in 9 out of the 10 cases they find out (about you having an orgy), and don't want to continue the relationship. :-)
- I didn't had high expectations by seeing the title, so it was above my expectations... good!

And seriously guys: if sex offends you then don't watch a movie with a title like this. And the American Pie movies are far far far worse and superficial than GOFO.

reply

I give it a 7. I thought it was pretty funny. I am not bothered by sexual content or stuff like that, so it didn't influence my rating. The movie had a good cast, some really funny parts, overall not really that special but definitely not bad. I like that in the end the characters actually did go through with the orgy, because when I started watching the film I was about 90% sure that the writers/producers wouldn't have the balls to actually show an orgy .

Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.

It was ok. It should have been funnier. Sudekis was funny and witty and Will Forte was hilarious as was the brief cameo by Danny Koechner but overall, it just never really took off for me. Good material but the supporting cast weren't very funny and that's what really killed it. They treated the whole idea of an orgy between good friends, very non-chalantly where it should have probably been a lot more uncomfortable situation. The chubby wild guy was very unfunny. At least they brought in some very hot, pretty or cute girls but none of them were standouts in the acting or comedy department. It was a surprise seeing Don Johsnon but he didn't really add anything other than a low-key surprise cameo.

I'd say the rating was about right. I wouldn't give it much higher than that.

reply

Certainly not the funniest movie I've ever seen, but a fine comedy that is a bit underrated here on IMDB (currently 6/10, I rate it 7/10).

reply

There's a lot of talk in this thread about how "witty" this film was. Honestly, I didn't feel the funny. Seemed like more of an awkward drag to me. The dialogue seemed forced and even the nookie was dull. According to the IMDb, the film clocks in at 95 minutes, but I swear it felt like the copy I saw lasted 3+ hours.

Since the original poster started this thread the film's ranking has risen to 6.1, so obviously a lot of people disagree with me. I suppose if we all had the same sense of humour it would be an awfully dull world.

reply

I don't know. I think it could be funny as a first date. But I guess it depends who you're on a date with.
