The character of Ethan pissed me off so much...

I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

-Ethan stupidly takes Peter's luggage without looking
-Annoys him on the plane and says things he shouldn't say that causes Peter to get shot by an air marshal both him and Peter to get kicked off
-He offers Peter a ride to LA but stops to spend most of their money on weed, -When his credit card gets maxed and they need Peter's wife to wire them money he stupidly gives his stage name instead of his real name which denies them access to that money
-He just stands by and lets Peter get beat up by a guy in wheelchair
-He faps off in the car and completely disregards the fact that Peter is trying to sleep
-Falls asleep while driving and almost gets them all killed
-He asks personal intrusive questions about Peter, his wife, and his friend Darryl that is none of his business
-He takes a wrong exit all the way to the Mexican border
-He leaves Peter to deal with the cops only to come back and bust him out of there, breaking more laws in the process.
-He reveals that he had Peter's wallet the whole time, everything Peter needed to get home and yet kept it from him and let Peter endure all that.
-He picks up a loaded gun in the glove compartment and accidentally shoots Peter without thinking...

He was the cause of a lot of grief, misery, frustration, anxiety, and misfortunes that Peter had to endure and while he apologized for SOME of it, he still acted like he was Peter's 'victim'. He acted like Peter's rage and anger wasn't justified and that grated on my nerves through out the whole film. I'm shocked that Peter continued association with this man after all the trouble he's caused through is lack of common sense and sheer stupidity....and yet....I some how felt sympathy for Ethan because he was all alone and needed a friend. ACK! Conflicted I am.

P.S. I realize it's just a movie.

Those are the weirdness in the movie. Don't bother there's probably no explanation to that. And its not really as a part of a characters deliberate personality but poor writing by screenwriters

Um that was the plot of the movie.

Which means Zach Galianakis did his job. He was supposed to be annoyingly stupid. We wouldn't have a movie if he wasn't.

For some odd reason during a time this movie came out I've associated Ethan to myself because I was the kind of guy who wanted to be friends with everyone and Peter reminded me very much of the people who I've tried being nice to that were being rude, snobby and stuck up towards me.
