I doubt it. A six-year-old Simon probably couldn't play chess, and a similarly aged Alvin wouldn't have the patience for football.
However, I think they should have portrayed this film in middle school, not high school. All lot of it would have made more sense.
yeah in the cartoon they attended middle school. i always imagined them to be in the 10-13yr old range.

In the cartoon, they were all 8 years old and in middle school. While sometimes they didn't act that way, most of the immaturity came from their youth.
I'm guessing this CGI version of the Chipmunks are older.
I could see Alvin and Simon as 6th or 7th graders but Theodore is the baby of the group. I figure should be in about 1st or 2nd grade.
