After watching 'The Chaser', I was quite excited to give this a shot. It started so well, the first hour had me hooked & I couldn't understand how this film was so underrated.. Then it got totally carried away with the plot & became too unfocused. The film is divided into four parts, and it's in the third part I think that they start to focus more on the two bosses who are going against each other, and it gets so damn hard to follow what's going on. At the start, I enjoyed how the film wouldn't really spell things out as clearly as a usual film would, but it started making bigger leaps & at faster rates, throwing around character names & bringing in & out characters and so on.. It just got a bit too much. Then there's also the excessive violence that was a bit ridiculous.. Myun was way too unstoppable. There was at least three times when he took out like 6 people at a time. At first, it was pretty cool, but it got a bit carried away..

Whenever the film would get it's groove back & focus on the main character again, it got a lot better. But the plot became too convuluted that even the simpler stuff involving his character & whatever was going on with his wife became hard to keep track of. The first hour that was amazing, following his planning of how to kill the Professor was fascinating to watch & quite clever, and once the twist/hook came the film had me right on the edge of my seat. There was several excellent scenes where it's extremely tense & exciting, mostly the first massive chase scene with the protagonist.

Despite the convuluted plot, it's still quite worth watching because all in all it's pretty good. If you're able to keep track of the plot (which is hard even when you're very focused) then it's probably even better. Though I just wish they recut the film and cut out a lot of the fat that wasn't necessary. What was most interesting about the film was the main character, not the crap between Myun & Kim.

Yeah, I can kinda see your point and I bet others will probably think the same, but I went along with the ride... I didn't mind the direction it took and even though the third act was like a Saw movie, I still somewhat enjoyed the over the top violence and mayhem it brought with it.. How about that car chase??? That was one of the funniest and longest car chases I've seen, but I loved it, lol...

I think The Chaser is better in every aspect, although TYS is no slouch either.

The first hour of this film is Amazing. I give it a 10 out of 10.
The action sequences are like a 7.5 rating.
The chasing sequences get too crazy and unrealistic. At first its fun but way too repetitive. I felt like this was the weakness of this film. 5 out of 10.
Overall story / script (i'm korean american) Pretty quality. 8 out of 10.

If the movie had more realistic chasing sequences this would be a top notch film.
