This is good, but it's no ' The Chaser'

The Chaser is a much better film. The narrative of this film is too long and disjointed to give it overly high marks. It's a good film and the action is filmed wonderfully, the acting is solid, and the director does a nice job, but the story is lacking when it's all said and done. If you haven't seen "The Chaser" directed by the same director, do yourself a favor and check it out. It's easily one of my favorite all-time Korean films and much better than this one.

i agree cos I still cant understand yellow sea so much, its bit confusing but I love it. Of course chaser is better.

Well, they are two completely different films.

I actually was not that fond of Chaser because all of the unnecessary violence, but it was a good film indeed.

I think the first hour had amazing narrative. They had a couple good scenes of story telling. My favorite was the ending shot after Gunam dies. You see the silhouette of the man dumping his body and his possessions under the moonlight. Good solid ending shot.

The chasing sequences made this film ridiculous... but it was fun to watch.

Chaser had a better organized narrative. I think Chaser was a better film. This film is good and probably could have been 2x better with a better budget.

Along with IMDb now being filled with a large amount of hate and way ott negative reviews, Korean movie threads now usually trend a bellend saying "The Chaser is better. I you haven't seen it.. " Blah.

Yeah it seems that any Korean thriller nowadays gets compared to The Chaser or Oldboy (even though IMO those are pretty much the benchmarks of the genre).

This has more in common with Secret (Sikeurit) or The Man From Nowhere. Even though i feel those are both better films I think Yellow Sea holds up on its own.

I felt it would've been better if it stayed focused on Gu-nam and his search for his wife. I think the whole gang war was thrown in just so the director could film a few chase scenes.

Considering "The Yellow Sea" has the same director and two lead actors as "The Chaser" I feel it is fair to compare the two films as to the quality of each and make a judgement as to which is better of the two.

Fair point. I take it back, with apologies.
