I don't... I can't... what?

I love Rawshark

reply

Exactly. It started out great but then went to complete sheet.

*beep* up, totally retarded plot.

reply

I didn't get loads of it - totally didn't understand many aspects of the plot - so I thought either the plot was retarded or I was. But reading through some of the other questions and answers in the message boards made the plot a lot clearer (perhaps me just being a retard then ;)... Have you read through any of it to see if it's enlightening? What was supposed to be in that white box he had at the end though? Any ideas?

reply

Plot was very confusing at points.

But, the white box contained his wife's ashes.
There was a scene where the main character is talking to a man over the phone about the remains of his wife and how he'll need $2000 for a cremation.

OR, some random woman's ashes. the last scene after the credits (the "reveal") seems to show his wife getting off of a train, and the remains MAY have been some other woman who was killed (not his wife). So she MAY still be alive. That scene confused me yet again.

BUT, the white box did contain SOMEONE'S remains. That's the only thing I'm sure of haha

If you didn't understand that it surely is yourself who didn't pay attention to the dialogue.

reply

Well it IS surely myself who didn't pay [full] attention to the dialogue. I never attested to or asserted anything to the contrary. In fact, you will notice I said that the fact I didn't understand parts of the plot was due to me being a retard (which is my way of saying I wasn't as attentive as I'd have liked - I'm not actually retarded). There are plenty of reasons why I couldn't pay full attention to the dialogue whilst watching the film, and reasons why I haven't been able to watch the film a second time since - hence why I was reading through the message boards regarding plot questions, not that this matters or is of significance. Anyway, would you be so kind as to enlighten me, what is your point?

Sometimes this can be good in movies. Start serious and then, BAM, goes and becomes something else. This started as a gritty, raw and bleak story about a man who didnt have much hope in life. He doesnt care if he lives or dies. He gets a mission, and somehow goes into it, and manages bit by bit to do it even though he is in way deep water and dont know how. Its interesting to follow. Then it turns around and becomes a monster mega hollywood action movie gone crazy. Mixed with some asian gang land action comedy mystery mash up! With sprinkles on top. Its like in "From dusk til dawn", where it works magic! Its fantastic there. But its not really worth it in this movie :( It had something special. A feeling that i have almost never felt in a movie. And i would have died (!) to see it through all the way in the same style. Picture this:

The police chase that started it all could have been just 1 car coming and he escapes in a MUCH more realistic way. After that he would go into hiding and slow and steady started to realise what a new situation he is in. He has a new life now. Its all over with the old. He lives here now. (We wouldnt mix in any of the gang stuff. Its in the background, and we get the most of it, but we dont need to see it at all, cause it just becomes silly and comedy like.) Then he starts sneaking around a little about what happened with his wife and start making a new secret life for himself in his new home, living on the edge of the law. Surviving.

Would have been such a great movie :(

"Would have been such a great movie :( "

No, only the one you wanted to see, that's all. But not the one the director wanted to make.

reply

yep, the movie started as an interesting bleak drama, but turned into a super unrealistic 80s Hollywood action wannabe with some poor Oldboy/The Chaser flavour. ew.

reply

That probably what we would have got if Fox wasn't involved.

As soon as I saw the Fox logo I went, "ok, this is not going to end well" and right I was. I can get some of the fight scenes, they were pretty cool but the movie just went full retard whenever a police was around.

Also most of the South Koreans movie i've seen had very good action scenes and didn't suffer from the Hollywood-cut-every-second-to-make-the-viewer-not-get-what-is-going-on but this movie had that same problem.
And I put that blame on Fox cause i've seen The Chaser and that movie had freaking awesome fights and you could always tell what was going on, why didn't he bring that into this movie? Fox I tell you!
